Seminole State Soccer Prove Themselves Saturday and Remain Undefeated

Saturday in Seminole at the BCM Sports Complex was the location of the soccer showdown between the #2 Iowa Western Community College Lady Reivers and the #3 Seminole State Lady Trojans.

Both teams came into the game undefeated. Iowa’s record was 11-0-2 and Seminole’s was 14-01.

Within two minutes from the start of the game, the Lady Trojans jumped on the score board with a goal by Gabby Torres who was assisted by Mary Awuah.

Fifteen minutes later, the Lady Reivers got on the board when Oruha Hayashi scored the goal who was assisted by Mariana Brito.

The game was tied at 1-1 throughout the first half until Lady Trojan Mary Awuah drew the yellow card and Hayashi had a free kick and scored the goal right before the break.

Iowa Western had the lead 2-1 at halftime.

The second half was a slug fest as the game was a defensive battle on both sides. No scores were made through most of the half until Seminole State’s Aniyah White-Nurse was awarded a free kick and scored the goal at the 89:10 mark of the game.

The game ended in a 2-2 tie with both teams staying undefeated.

“I’m very happy with the effort and energy the girls played with”, stated Head Coach Dan Hill.

“We played well against a very good Iowa Western side, and definitely took away some lessons that we will learn from moving forward. It was important match to play and perform well in before the upcoming playoffs.”

The goalie for Seminole State in the first half was Caroline Mobley who had one save and Ella Copenhaver in the second half who had six saves.

Seminole State had 10 fouls to Iowa Western’s 7. Iowa had a total of 9 corner kicks to Seminole State’s 4. Next up for Seminole State is a home game against Northern Oklahoma College – Enid at 2 p.m.
