Seminole State Lady Trojans are Preparing for Greatness

Posted in:

Seminole State College is preparing for another great season this year in sports. Head Coach Dan Hill of the SSC soccer team is preparing his team for another great and historic season.

The soccer team is ranked #4 Nationally to start the season.

The girls’ soccer team started practicing at the beginning of August with 14 returners and 14 Freshman coming aboard.

The Lady Trojans are coming off an undefeated regular season last year with a record of 18-0-2. The year ended with an 19-1-2 record, reaching the Regional Championship rounds.

Coach Hill stated that his girls have the same goal in mind with winning the championship and that’s what they are training for.

“We have had three scrimmages so far”, stated Leslie Razo . “The first two were pretty rough but we have only known each for only 2 weeks and it’s a brand new team. But each game is getting better and fixing the mistakes we’ve made.”

The Seminole Producer sat down with five of the team’s captains, Leslie Razo, Molly-Kate Lundy, Sophia Doumos, Isabella Queneau and Jasmine Barney. Four of the members

are returners and Queneau transferred in but is a sophomore.

The girls were asked about what they were taking with them from last year into this year: Doumos “We have a lot more sophomores than last year and some of the freshman played in club teams, so we’re starting with more team chemistry, if that makes sense. We’ve been building from the first practice and it’s making our team click because we know each other from last year.”

After your first home game in September, you guys have five road games back-to-back. Does that affect you at all playing that many games away from home?

Barney : I think it’s more motivating to play harder because we’re from a small town. And when we go on these road games, we kind of want to make a statement. Just because we’re from a small town we want to show that we can compete with everyone else. I think it’s more motivating than anything to play away.”

How are you sophomores blending in with the new freshman teammates?

Lundy : “I think our relationships with the freshman is going really good. We’re already getting close, like building a relationship even though it’s been two weeks or so. It’s going in the right direction.”

What are your expectations for this season after playing for Coach Hill last season?

Doumos: “Well, we have the same goal this year as we did last year, that was to win Nationals. Obviously, we didn’t reach that goal last year so that’s our goal this year. This year, we’re bringing in more girls that played last year so we’re picking up from where we left off last season and just want to go one better.”

So, Daytona won Nationals last year, do you girls have it in for them or want that rematch?

“Yes!” stated all the captains. “If we come up against them, it’s going to be a revenge match for sure,” stated Doumos.

The captains stated about what they thought about playing for their coach Dan Hill.”

Barney : “For me, Coach Hill is one of the most supportive coaches you’ll ever meet or come across. I’ve never heard a girl from wherever they’re from say I’ve never seen as good as a coach as great as Coach Hill is. Just as much as he cares about his players and the program. Even after our program at Seminole. He’ll reach out and keeps in touch just to see what you’re up to.”

Queneau: “Yeah, I’ve only been here for two weeks, and I already see it. And you see what other people say of what coach is about and what he is to this team”.

Head Coach Dan Hill has been coaching for the Seminole State Lady Trojan soccer team since 2016 and has a remarkable resume. The coach commented on his 2025 soccer team this year: Dan Hill : “We have a good mixture of experience and leadership coming back with some really good young talent and I’m looking forward to leadership and discipline we have.”

What are your expectations you see from last year coming into this year?

Hill : “Our goal is never going to change. We want to compete and be at the top of our region. Hopefully win a region championship, get to a National Tournament and compete for National Championships. That’s our expectation to get to that National Championship and win.”

What’s the road look like to get to that Championship this year?

Hill: “We have a lot of good teams we’re facing this year. It’s probably the toughest schedule we’ve had. Five non-conference teams that will be ranked in the top 15 teams in the nation. I’m excited to see what the other teams are doing in the region. We have a really tough pre-season scrimmage schedule with two NCA division I schools, two division II schools and then a top 5 NAI team. 10 of our 21 contests are going be against top quality teams that are outside of our region and then obviously our region is going to be tough as well.

A very difficult schedule. But the group came into practice with preparation and our high character kids.

A lot of dept on this team, probably the most depth we’ve had on this team. Again, our goal is to compete for National Championships.

I really love this squad, the determination, attitude, and the work rate they have given us so far. They’ve been phenomenal.”

The SSC soccer team have their first game of the regular season on Monday the 25th at home at 5:30 p.m.

The Lady Trojans will face Butler Community College who are ranked 11th and their second game is at home on the 4th of September against Cowley County Community College at 6 p.m.
