Seminole Hosted Meeker for Their Homecoming Game
Friday night was homecoming for the Seminole Chieftains as they hosted the Meeker Bulldogs in some basketball action.
Seminole selected Jaelynne Knighton as Queen and Dontre Garfield as King.
The Seminole Chieftains took to the court first to start off the evening. The Chieftains dominated the first quarter with some three-point shots made by Donovan Garfield, Braden Kolander, Nehemiah Harge and Justice Kortchaver who drained two to help Seminole go 25 to 11 in the frame.
In the second, Meeker Bulldog B. Manning knocked down two treys to help try and close the gap, but the Chieftain’s offense continued to roll with Tyce Bruner, Kortchaver and Kolander scoring 6 points each. Kolander’s was from two 3-point shots.
The Chieftains had a 23-point lead at the half with a score of 47-24.
Meeker tried to find a momentum play or something to slow down the Chieftains offensive pressure in the third as the Bulldogs scored 13 points in the quarter.
The twenty-five points scored in the third by the Chieftains were by great shooting from the field and inside the paint.
The Meeker Bulldogs continued to battle in the fourth quarter but had no answer for the Chieftains. Seminole stuck with their game plan in the final with Carter Childs knocking down two treys to seal the win for the Chieftains with a final score of 93-50.
The Chieftains protected their home court on homecoming night and Justice Kortchaver scoring 19 points and three-point shots.
Tyce Bruner scored 14 points all from the field and Braden Kolander scored 11 points with three of them from three-point shots.
The Seminole Lady Chieftains were next to face the Meeker Lady Bulldogs.
The Lady Chieftains struggled in offense in the first as the Lady Bulldogs shut out Seminole 20-0 in the quarter.
Seminole comes back in the second quarter with Aundrea Tagg knocking down a three-point shot to help the Lady Chieftains close the gap with an 11-9 run.
The Lady Chieftains were down by 19 points heading into the third quarter.
Head Coach Ashley Lamb fired up her team at the break and the Lady Chieftains dominated the third quarter as the offense outscored the Lady Bulldogs as the defense held Meeker to 9 points to close the gap to within 4 points at one point in the frame as the home crowd cheered on the Lady Chieftains. Ryley Stanfill and Dylilah Hymes led Seminole with six points each in the frame.
The Lady Chieftains were looking at a 6-point deficit heading into the fourth quarter. The battle continued at the top of the frame as Seminole kept it close but lost their momentum halfway through the quarter. The Lady Chieftains scored 13 points in the quarter but committed multiple fouls on Meeker as the Lady Bulldogs shot 9 of 13 from the foul line.
Meeker Lady Bulldogs pulled out the victory with a final score of 56-45.
Scoring for the Lady Chieftains was Dylilah Hymes with 14 points and was four of seven from the foul line.
Ryley Stanfill scored 11 points and was one of two from the line.
Jaelynne Knighton scored 10 points and was four of eight from the foul line.
Next up for Seminole is a home game tonight against Okmulgee.
The game is set to start at 6 p.m. with the Lady Chieftains followed by the Seminole boys.
