Seminole Chieftains Take Care of McLoud Friday Night
The Seminole Chieftains played their third home game and hosted the McLoud Redskins Friday night.
The Chieftains protected their home field with a 44-14 big win. The Chieftains now move to a 5-2 record on the season.
Friday night was also parent’s night, and the parents of the football team were honored before the game and the band and color guard’s parents were honored at halftime.
The Chieftains elected to receive the ball to start the game. McLoud tried an onside kick, but Seminole was ready and recovered the ball at midfield. The Chieftains were faced with a 3rd and 8 when McLoud was penalized for a facemask and moved the ball down to the 30-yard line. From there, Chieftain quarterback Dontre Garfield connected with wide receiver Landon Bowling for a 25-yard touchdown play. Garfield converted the two-point conversion.
After Seminole kicked off to McLoud, on the first play from scrimmage, quarterback Shawn Hill fumbled the ball and Seminole recovered the ball at the 40-yard line.
The Chieftains moved the ball down to the 20 and another facemask was called on McLoud and that moved the ball down to the 9-yard line. Running back Jay Ladd scored the rushing touchdown. The twopoint conversion failed.
The Chieftains had a 14-0 lead at the halfway mark of the first quarter.
Both teams would go three and out before the quarter ended.
McLoud was on offense to start the second quarter, but a holding penalty cause them to punt the ball.
Seminole took seven minutes off the clock, moving the ball down field. Quarterback Garfield scored the 5-yard rushing touchdown. Again, the twopoint conversion failed. Seminole was now 20-0.
On the first offensive play from McLoud, the quarterback connected with his wide receiver for long touchdown pass to get on the board. The extra point was good. McLoud had some momentum and tried an outside kick again and it worked this time. McLoud started back to work on offense at the 30-yard line with 2:48 left in the quarter. The pass and catch play worked again for MCLoud as they scored another touchdown. The extra point was good. McLoud scored 2 touchdowns in a matter of minutes.
Seminole tried to get their momentum back before the half, but time ran out.
McLoud received the ball to start the third and on their first play from scrimmage, both teams were penalized for personal fouls. McLoud couldn’t move the ball and were about to punt when the ball flew over the punter’s head and the Chieftains tackled the punter at their 15-yard line.
The Chieftains took over then and scored from 13 yards out on a QB keeper. The two-point conversion was converted by Bowling. Seminole was now up 28-14.
Neither team would score in the third. The Chieftains were on the move at the end of the third and started the fourth on offense but turned the ball over on downs.
McLoud struggled on offense in the quarter did not see the endzone the rest of the game.
The Chieftains moved the ball inside the Redskins redzone, and QB Garfield scored from 16 yards out. Arrmon Burris scored the two-point conversion.
McLoud went three and out again and the Chieftains capitalized on their next possession and Burris put the game away with another touchdown from two yards out. Timothy McFadden got in on the game with the two-point conversion.
The Seminole Chieftains won at home with a score of 44-14.
The Chieftains had 40 carries for 249 yards total.
Quarterback Dontre Garfield has 25 carries for 159 yards and 4 TDs.
Arrmon Burris had 12 carries for 64 yards and one TD.
The Chieftains had a total of 291 total yards in the game.
Next up for the Chieftains is Sulphur on the 25th of October. Sulphur is 6-1 on the season. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
