Seminole Chieftains Fall Short Friday Night Against Bristow
The Seminole Chieftains hosted the Bristow Pirates on Homecoming night.
The Chieftains selected Cailey Trujillo as Queen and Landon Bowling as King.
The Seminole Chieftains came into the game undefeated with a 4-0 record on the season. The Bristow Pirates came into the game 2-2.
The game totaled over 100 points with the Pirates coming out on top.
Both teams went four and out on their possessions to start the game. On Bristow’s next possession, Seminole recovered a fumble at the 8:52 mark of the first quarter.
The Chieftains went to work on offense and running back Donavin Garfield scored on a 44-yard touchdown run. The two-point conversion failed.
The Bristow Pirates answered right back on their next possession with 7-yard rushing touchdown to tie things up. The field goal was good.
The Chieftains moved the ball down inside Bristow’s territory and quarterback Dontre Garfield punched in the touchdown from 6 yards out to take the lead again. Seminole’s twopoint conversion failed.
The score was 12-7 Seminole at the end of the first.
The Chieftains extended their lead in the second when QB Garfield connected with Reed Bowers for an 18-yard touchdown pass and catch. The twopoint conversion failed.
The Pirates came right back on their next possession and Bristow’s Darien Dansby scored on 44-yard passing touchdown to close the gap 18-14 at the 7:23 mark of the third.
At the 7:07 mark, Chieftain QB Garfield found wide receiver Jay Ladd wide open for an 80-yard touchdown pass. Wide receiver Austin Smith converted the 2-point conversion. With the clock ticking down to the half, Bristow manages a score with approximately a minute and a half to keep the game close.
On the kickoff to Seminole, Bristow converted an onside kick. Head Coach Mike Synder argued that the ball didn’t travel 10 yards before the Pirates recovered but the refs allowed it.
The Pirates took advantage of situation and scored another touchdown with their two-point conversion good.
Bristow took the lead right at the half 30-26.
The Pirates received the ball at the top of the third quarter and scored a touchdown on their offensive drive.
The Chieftains were down by 11 points but midway through the quarter, wide receiver Mason Bennett scored on a 32-yard touchdown pass play to put the Chieftains right back in the game. Landon Bowling converted the two-point conversion for Seminole.
Bristow continued to pressure and scored another touchdown at the 3:04 minute mark of the third.
Seminole fought back and QB Garfield scored a rushing touchdown from 5 yards out right before the quarter ended. Bowling scored the two-point conversion again for the Chieftains.
The Pirates had a twopoint lead heading into the final quarter 44-42.
Bristow continued their attack on offense and put up 7 more points with Promised Johnson scoring on a 16-yard rushing touchdown.
Seminole went back to work and moved the ball down inside the Pirates redzone. Garfield connected with wide receiver Smith again for the touchdown. The two-point conversion failed.
The Chieftains closed the gap to a score of 48-51 with just minutes left.
The Chieftains had the Pirates pinned in their own territory until a personal fowl was called on Seminole and a player disagreed with the call and another personal fowl was called. The fowls moved the Pirates in Seminole territory and in scoring position.
The Pirates did just that, running back Dansby ran in a 15-yard touchdown run to put the game out of reach with time running out for Seminole.
The Bristow Pirates won 58-48 in a hard-fought game.
“I thought our kids played really hard,” stated Head Coach Mike Synder. “We kept making plays that kept us in the game. What happened was what we worried about before the game. They were so much more physical than us up front, and we could not stop the run. We had some breakdown on a couple of three and long plays that led to touchdowns for them. We lost Donavan Garfield and Jay Ladd in the first half that had a huge impact on the fact we could not stop them.”
The Seminole Chieftains had a total of 519 yards in the game.
Rushing, Seminole rushed 30 times for 199 yards.
Passing, quarterback Dontre Garfield was 22/33 for 320 yards and 4 touchdowns.
Garfield had 21 carries for 125 yards and 2 TDs, Jay Ladd had 6 carries for 68 yards and one touchdown.
Receiving, Landon Bowling had 8 catches for 94 yards, Reed Bowers had one catch for 18 yards and a TD and Jay Ladd had 2 catches for 82 yards and one touchdown.
Next up for the Chieftains is an away game at Perkins-Tyron on the 11th of October. The next home game will be the 18th of October against McLoud. The game is set to kickoff at 7:30 p.m.
