Sasakwa Vikings Win Their 8-Man Classic Baseball Tournament

Sasakwa held their annual 8-Man Classic Baseball Tournament this past weekend and came away with the Championship.

There were four Seminole County schools participating in the tournament including Sasakwa. Other high schools participating was Thackerville, Savanna, Olive and Wilson- Henryetta. The Bowlegs Bison started the tournament facing the in-state Maud Tigers Thursday. The Bison struggled in their first game and fell 2-14. The Bison moved on to face Thackerville on Friday morning and won that game to advance to the Consolation Championship on Saturday to face Olive. Bowlegs struggled on offense again and were shut down and fell 0-11.

The Maud Tigers started off facing Bowlegs Thursday and dominated the game with a final score of 14-2. The Tigers faced the Sasakwa Vikings on Friday but fell in the battle 2-15. Maud moved on to face the Strother Yellowjackets on Saturday for third place in the tournament. Maud could not get things going in the match and fell 1-14.

The Strother Yellowjackets started off facing Savanna on Thursday and posted a shutout over the Bulldogs 12-0. The Jackets moved on to face Wilson- Henryetta on Friday. Strother lost the battle 3-8 but the Jackets were not out. Strother then faced the Maud Tigers for third place on Saturday. Strother dominated the game and won 3rd place of the tournament with a final score of 14-1.

The Sasakwa Vikings stared their tournament off facing Thackerville on Thursday.

The Vikings took control of the game in the first inning. Thackerville went scoreless at the top of the first inning, and the Vikings scored 13 runs at the bottom of the inning. After one out, Sasakwa’s Josh Jones hits a homerun and knocks in runner Ayden Livesay to help the Vikings post a shutout 13-0.

The Vikings faced the Maud Tigers on Friday. Sasakwa batted first in the game and took the lead with a single run. Maud went three and out in the first. Sasakwa came back at the top of the second and scored five runs to add to their lead. Maud lit up the score board in the second with a single run.

In the third inning, both teams scored three runs each. At the top of the fourth inning Ayden Livesay hits a homerun and knocks in runner Titus Collins to put the Vikings up 11-4.

The Maud Tigers tried to close the gap with a single run in the fourth and two runs in the fifth, but the Vikings put the game away with eight runs at the top of the sixth. The Tigers could not rally back in the inning, and the game was called. The Vikings won 19-7 and advanced to the championship.

On Championship Saturday, the Vikings faced the Wilson-Henryetta Tigers.

Wilson went to bat first and went three and out. Sasakwa took the lead at the bottom of the inning when Ayden Livesay and Titus Collins scored on a pop fly.

The Tigers struggled on offense in the game and went scoreless again in the second. Sasakwa’s Nathaniel Gentry scored a single run in the inning.

Neither team scored a run in the third.

The Vikings put the game out of reach at the bottom of the fourth with Gentry scored on a fly ball, Micah Wheeler scored on a line drive and Collins and Darius Henderson scored on a fly ball.

The defense continued to hold the Tiger offense scoreless in the fifth and put the game away at the bottom of the inning with Serman Mitchell and Gentry scoring on a fly ball.

The Vikings posted a shutout over the Wilson- Henryetta Tigers 9-0 to win the 8-Man Baseball Tournament.

Pitching for Sasakwa was Micah Wheeler who pitched three innings and allowed zero runs, four walks and striking out six.

Ayden Livesay pitched two innings allowing zero runs, one walk and striking out five.

The regular baseball season has ended for most of the Seminole County schools. Now, the teams gear up for District Playoffs.

The Bowlegs Bison head into Districts and will play at Moss on the 23rd.

The Maud Tigers head to New Lima for Districts and will play on the 23rd through the 25th.

Sasakwa Vikings have an away game on the 21st at Konawa. The game is set to start at 4 p.m. The Vikings will also host Districts the 23rd through the 25th.

The Strother Yellowjackets will host Districts the 23rd through the 25th.
