Sasakwa Vikings Win at Home on Senior Night
The Saskawa Vikings played their last home game of the season against the Macomb Hornets Tuesday night for senior night.
The Vikings honored McKayla Harjo, Alexis James and Kaisyn Shaw.
The Lady Vikings started the evening off with some offensive pressure with McKayla Harjo leading the way with 7 points to help the Lady Vikings go on a 19-10 run in the quarter.
The defense of the Lady Vikings stepped up in the second kept the Lady Hornets from scoring with steals and blocks. Sasakwa’s offense lit up the scoreboard with two threepoint shots by Addy Odom and Harjo.
The Lady Hornets were down by five heading into the third.
The Lady Hornets fired back in the third and closed the gap with a three-point shot by Breanna Beauchamp and 8 points by Addy Beauchamp. The Lady Vikings were fouled most of the quarter and shot six of seven from the foul line but still had the lead at the end of the quarter.
The Vikings struggled on defense and allowed the Lady Hornets to make a rally in the fourth with 14 points scored. The game within two points in the final seconds but the Lady Vikings prevailed and won 52 to 48.
Leading for the Lady Vikings was McKayla Harjo with 17 points, two threepoint shots and was five of six from the foul line.
KK Wheeler scored 11 points and was seven of eight from the line.
Alexis James scored 9 points and was one of two from the line.
Next up was the Vikings boys and the Macomb Hornets.
The Vikings took off from the jump. Josh Jones of Sasakwa scored 10 points in the first with two of them being three-point shots. Sasakwa dominated on offense in the first going on a 26-10 run.
The second quarter was much like the first, the defense of the Vikings smothered up the offensive plays of the Hornets and took advantage of the turnovers and turned them into points.
The Macomb Hornets were looking at a 28-point deficit with a halftime score of 47 to 19.
The third quarter was not much better for the Hornets as the Vikings continued to roll with Darius Henderson scoring six points to help Sasakwa stay in the lead.
The Vikings let off the gas in the fourth, but Kaisyn Shaw and Thad Harjo found their threepoint range in the quarter.
The Hornets also found their range with two 3-points shots in the final frame. It didn’t close the gap much as the Sasakwa Vikings win their 20th game of the season.
Leading for the Vikings was Josh Jones with 17 points, 3 treys and was two of two from the foul line.
Darius Henderson scored 14 points and was two of four from the line.
Titus Harper-Collins scored 11 points and was three of five from the line.
The Sasakwa Vikings are hosting the District 2 Area IV basketball playoffs this weekend. In the district are Maud and Earlsboro along with Sasakwa.
The Lady Vikings start things off playing on the 14th at 6 p.m. against the Maud Lady Tigers. The winner will play the Earlsboro Lady Wildcats on Saturday the 15th at 6 p.m.
The Viking boys play on the 15th at 7:30 p.m. against the winner of the game between Maud and Earlsboro who play on Friday the 14th.
