Sasakwa Vikings Fall to Maysville Thursday Night
The number 13 ranked Sasakwa Vikings hosted the number 12 ranked Maysville Warriors Thursday night (rankings according to Maxpreps).
The 6-0 Vikings fell to the 4-2 Warriors 14-60 in a rough game on a cold night.
Maysville started off on offense and slowly moved the ball down field. On their first passing attempt, quarterback Josh Wilson threw the ball, and it was intercepted by Viking Titan Collins at the 20-yard line and Collins ran the ball back 80 yards for the pick-six.
The two-point conversion failed.
The Warriors fired right back on offense and scored on their next possession. Their two-point conversion was good. Maysville took the lead 8-6.
The Vikings moved the ball to the 20-yard line but couldn’t get the first down. Maysville went back on offense and the Viking defense held and the Warriors turned the ball back over to Sasakwa.
At the top of the second quarter, Sasakwa moved the ball to the 30 but struggled to get the first down. Maysville added to their lead on their next possession win a touchdown and the two-point conversion.
The Vikings struggled on offense for the next three possessions and turned the ball over to the Warriors.
Maysville capitalized on Sasakwa’s hardship and scored another touchdown.
The Viking defense had the Warriors on a third and long with less than a minute til the half when Viking Aden Livesay was called for a facemask on Maysville’s Josh Wilson which gave the Warriors a first and ten at the Viking 5-yard line. The Warrior quarterback drops back for a pass and linebacker Joseph Lunn tackles the QB but not before he throws the ball to Cayden Davis at the 3-yard line. Davis punched the ball in for the score. Two point-conversion was good.
Maysville had a commanding lead 30-6 at the half.
Sasakwa started the third on offense. The Vikings moved the ball down inside the Warrior’s redzone. Quarterback Thad Harjo handed the ball off to running back Joseph Lunn for a 5-yard rushing touchdown. Lunn scored the rushing two-point conversion.
Sasakwa was back on the board with a score of 14-30 with eleven minutes to play in the quarter.
Maysville stuck to their offensive attack and scored on their first possession of the quarter.
Sasakwa tried their air attack in the third but could not connect. As the passing game plan for the Vikings wasn’t working, the Warriors continued to move the ball on the ground successfully.
The Warriors scored three more times at the 7:14 mark, 4:28 mark and last score was at the 1:22 mark of the third. The game was called after that touchdown.
The Maysville Warriors won 60-14.
Next up for the Vikings is an away game at Graham- Dustin on the 25th of October.
Sasakwa’s next home game is Fox on the 1st of November. This game will be the Viking’s Senior Night. The game is set to start at 7 p.m. with the seniors being honored before the game.
