Sasakwa Vikings Avenge Loss to Earlsboro Thursday Night
The Sasakwa Vikings traveled to Wildcat country to take on Earlsboro Thursday evening in the Vikings last away game of the season.
The Vikings boys came ready to play and to revenge their loss to the Wildcats during the LRC Conference back in December.
Sasakwa jumped out to an early lead with Josh Jones scoring 6 points in the first to help the Vikings go on a 14-5 run.
Sasakwa’s Ayden Livesay and Jones found their three-point range in the second and knocked down a trey each, but the Wildcats fired back in the frame with Quintin Lena scoring 17 points with three treys.
The Vikings had a 4-point lead coming from the break. Sasakwa made some adjustments on offense in the third and dominated the quarter with 26 points scored to extend their lead.
The Wildcats were looking at a 15-point deficit heading into the final quarter.
Both teams battled to the end of regulation as the Wildcats had no answer in the end as the Vikings let off the gas and cruised in for the win with a final score of 65 to 51.
Leading for Earlsboro was Quintin Lena with 28 points.
Leading for the Sasakwa Vikings was Josh Jones with 20 points, one trey and was five of five from the free throw line.
Micah Wheeler had 12 points and was two for four from the line.
Darius Henderson and Titus Harper-Collins each had eight points in the game.
“It’s always tough to beat a good team, much less to do it right before the district tournament and turn around and potentially have to do it again next week,” stated Head Coach Chris Jones.
“But that’s the task we will have in front of us thanks to our draw in the playoffs. Definitely neither team deserves to face each other so soon in the playoffs but can’t cry about it now. We’ll enjoy this one tonight, but jobs not finished when it comes to having to face these guys again.”
The Sasakwa Lady Vikings lost their matchup with the Lady Wildcats 32-73. No stats were given on this game.
Next up for Sasakwa is a home game on the 11th of February against Macomb. This will be Sasakwa’s Senior Night.
The game is set to start at 6 p.m.
Sasakwa will be the District 2 site and will host Earlsboro and Maud.
The Sasakwa Lady Vikings will play Maud in their first round of the playoffs on the 14th of February at 6 p.m.
The Sasakwa Viking boys have a bye on the 14th and will play the winner between Earlsboro and Maud on Saturday the 15th at 7:30 p.m.
