Remington Park American Quarter Horse & Mixed-Breed Season Opens March 6

OKLAHOMA CITY (Feb. 25, 2025) – Remington Park’s American Quarter Horse, Paint and Appaloosa Season opens Thursday, March 6, for its 50-date race season with a schedule filled with events that celebrate the sport of racing and raise funds for local nonprofit organizations.

During the season, top owners, trainers, jockeys and horses from across the nation compete for over $14 million in purses. Remington Park officials also enhance the race day experience with special events that raise money for charities and allow attendees to have a bit of fun.

“This season offers a variety of both serious and not-so-serious racing events, from thrilling, high stakes horse racing to fun and family-friendly signature events like Extreme Race Day for Charity, where exotic animals race down the track,” said Matt Vance, Remington Park’s executive vice president of racing. “We encourage both seasoned racing fans and those who are new to the sport to mark their calendars for this exciting season.”

Two popular events return during the season. On May 3, when the world’s most famous Thoroughbred race, the Kentucky Derby, is run at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Ky., Remington Park patrons can participate in the popular Hat and Tie Contest. Racing fans can don their finest Derby attire and compete for cash prizes during the contest, which is free for people 18 and over to enter and will take place on Track Level.

One of Remington Park’s major charity fundraisers, Extreme Race Day for Charity, is set for April 13. The event – which usually draws one of Remington Park’s largest crowds each year – features exotic animal racing with camels, zebras, ostriches, miniature donkeys and Clydesdale horses.

Funds raised during Extreme Racing for Charity and other events throughout the year are donated to nonprofit groups designated as Remington Park Charities. In 2024, Remington Park raised over $95,000 for those charities.
