The Potawatomi Fire Protect Their Home Court Friday Night
The Potawatomi Fire Basketball team won another game at home Friday night to extend their winning streak to 8 and are undefeated at home.
The Fire are the backto- back Champions of The Basketball League (TBL) and are showing why they are the defending champions throughout their 15-1 season.
The Firelake Arena was packed with 1,809 attending the home game Friday night in a landslide victory over the San Antonio Clutch.
The Clutch started off with the lead and had the momentum with a 11-10 lead, halfway through the first quarter.
The Fire settled down and came back in the second half of the quarter with a 17-6 run to take the lead.
The Fire excited the home crowd with some great shooting, going 24-6 in the first half of the second and extended their lead before the half.
The Clutch was down by 22 points at the half and had no answer for the defending champs in the third quarter as San Antonio only rallied up 8 points halfway through the quarter.
The Fire continued with their offensive pressure and never looked back as they took a 98-52 lead at the end of the third. The defense of the Fire gets the praise for holding the Clutch to 36.7% shooting from the field.
The final quarter belonged to the Fire as they dominated with some fancy displaying of threepoint shooting and slam dunks.
The Potatwatomi Fire kept their home flame burning as they defeated the San Antonio Clutch 138-81.
“I thought we were really good on defense tonight,” stated Head Coach Mark Dannhoff.
“We did a good job of challenging shots and keeping San Antonio off the glass. I was happy with what I saw on defense.”
The win also clinched the season sweep over the San Antonio Clutch this season with a 4-0 series.
Leading for the Fire was Chuck Guy with 26 points, 10 assists, 2 rebounds, 1 steal and was two for two from the free throw line.
Isaiah Wade had 25 points, 8 rebounds, one assist and as two for four from the line.
Cameron Williams had 21 points, three rebounds, three assists and two steals. “When we started the year, we talked about taking thigs step by step and winning the conference and that it would be an important step,” stated Dannhoff.
“Winning the conference for the third straight year is a testament to the work we have put in and the bond these guys have built. While we don’t try to put added importance on individual games, winning the conference is a big deal and it’s something theses guys should be proud of.”
Next up for the Fire is Little Rock Lighting on Friday, May 9th at home.
