OSU Cowboys Defeat Cincinnati Bearcats on Senior Day
On Saturday, March 8th, the Oklahoma State Cowboys men’s basketball team took Eddie Sutton Court for the final time in the 2024- 2025 season. A senior day showdown against the Cincinnati Bearcats saw the Cowboys walk away with a 78-67 victory over the visitors. With the win OSU finishes the regular season 15-16 overall and 7-13 in Big XII conference play. Seniors Bryce Thompson (16 points) and Obou Ousmane (24 points and 8 rebounds) led the way for the Pokes.
Before the game, nine different Cowboys took part in Senior Day festivities.
Those honored included Forward Marchelus Avery, Guard Bryce Thompson, Guard Devo Davis, Guard Suemnick, Forward Abou Ousmane, and Forward Tyler Caron.
In his final game at home as a Cowboy, Bryce Thompson got off to a hot start. Scoring the team’s first ten points and helping the Pokes take an 18-15 lead just under the twelve-minute timeout. A 22-7 run over the next eight minutes led by two Marchelus Avery 3 pointers, expanded the Cowboy lead to eighteen, 40-22, with four minutes left in the first half. From there, Cincinnati would respond with a 14-4 run of their own over those final four minutes to trim the OSU lead down to 44-36 at the break.
The Cowboys led for the whole twenty minutes of the second half, but Cincinnati never went away. The Bearcats slowly clawed back into the game, even cutting the deficit all the way down to one, 66-65, with four minutes left after a Simas Lukosius 3 pointer. However, that’s when the Bearcats went cold and allowed the Cowboys to end the game on a 12-2 run. Finishing the season in style with a 78-67 win.
With the victory, OSU wraps up their home season with a record of 12-3, the Cowboys best home winning percentage since the 2013-2014 season.
The Pokes played through Abou Ousmane in the second half, and he delivered. Pouring in 24 points on 9-18 shooting and 8 rebounds in the contest. It was his third 20-point game as a Cowboy.
Bryce Thompson was the only four-year senior to be honored by OSU. In his final game in the orange and black, Thompson put up 16 points and went perfect from three. It was the 22nd time this season the Booker T. Washington product scored in double figures for the Cowboys.
OSU shot 47% from the field and 78% from three, while holding Cincinnati to 40% from the field and 7-28 from three.
Next up for the Pokes is some postseason basketball. The Cowboys will travel up to Kansas City as the 12th seed in the Big XII Tournament.
