New Lima Suffer Losses to Wetumka Tuesday Night

The New Lima Falcons hosted the Wetumka Chieftains to start off their New Year. The Chieftains proved to be too much and won both basketball games.

The Lady Falcons started the evening off and had a slow start to the game as the Lady Chieftains went on a 20-6 run in the first. New Lima’s Aubrey Washington scored all six points in the frame.

The defense of the Falconettes held the Lady Chieftains to 9 points scored in the second quarter. New Lima slowly closed the gap on the game.

The Falconettes were facing a 13-point deficit heading into the third quarter. New Lima fired back with Jazzy Harjo knocking down a three-point and Layla Cecil and Washington scoring six points each in the frame. The Lady Falcons closed the gap by 7 points with a 33-40 score heading into the final frame.

New Lima lost their momentum early in the final quarter and fell behind. The Lady Chieftains went back to their offensive attack and pulled away for the win.

The final score of the game was 60-39 Wetumka Lady Chieftains.

Leading the way for the Falconettes was Aubrey Washington with 18 points, two steals and was four of sixteen from the free throw line.

Layla Cecil had 10 points, one trey, three steals and was three of four from the line.

The New Lima Falcons hit the court next to face the Wetumka Chieftains.

New Lima had some very good shots early but could not make the shots count. The Chieftains rallied up 19 points in the first.

The Falcons struggled on offensive in the first half and fell behind. The Chieftains rolled on a 22-6 run in the second to take a sizable lead into the half.

The Falcons struggled to find some momentum on offense while the defense stepped up in the second half, holding the Chieftains to 12 points scored in the third quarter.

New Lima was down by a little over 30 points heading into the final quarter. The defense continued to hold Wetumka and the offense found a little daylight with 11 points scored but could not overcome the deficit.

The Wetumka Chieftains win on the road with a final score of 65-29.

Leading the way for New Lima was Waylon Neal with 18 points, three treys, three steals and was one of two from the free throw line.

Blaze Carter had 6 points on the evening.

Next up for the New Lima Falcons is an away game at Wapanucka today.

The next home game for the Falcons is on the 16th against the Midway Chargers.

The game is set to start at 6:30 p.m. with the Falconettes followed by the Falcon boys.
