New Lima Falcons Win at Home Against Wetumka
The New Lima Falcon’s baseball team won a close game in the seventh inning against the visiting Wetumka Chieftains Monday.
The visiting Chieftains went to bat first and went three-and-out at the top of the first.
The Falcons got on the board after two outs when Alex Leaver scored on a line drive by Logan Heard.
Both teams would go three-and-out in the second inning.
The Chieftains tied the game with a single run in the third inning and kept the Falcons scoreless at the bottom of the third.
The defenses continued to show their strength from both sides in the fourth as neither team scored.
New Lima continued to pressure on defense in the fifth and held the Chieftains to zero runs. The Falcons took advantage in the inning when Bear Colbert and Will Mayfield scored on a line drive and Leaver scored a run.
New Lima took the lead with a score of 4-1 at the bottom of the inning. The Chieftains answered back in the top of the sixth with 3 runs scored to tie things up again. The Falcons were held scoreless in the inning.
The game is still tied up heading into the 7th inning at 4 and 4.
The defense of the Falcons stepped up in the inning and held Wetumka to zero runs. The game looked like it could go extra innings but the Falcons prevented that with a homerun by Leaver after two outs to win the game 5-4.
Pitching for New Lima was Logan Heard who pitched 7 innings, allowing 4 runs and striking out 14.
Next up for New Lima is the Mill Creek tournament this weekend.
The next home game for the Falcons is Strother on the 31st. The game is set to start at 4 p.m. with the junior high starting first, followed by the high school.
New Lima will also be playing in the Little River Conference baseball tournament on the 3rd through the 5th of April.
