The New Lima Falcon’s baseball team hosted Class B District playoff with the Braggs Wildcats on Tuesday afternoon.

The Falcons posted a shutout in the first matchup. The Wildcats went to bat first and went three-and-out while the Falcons scored four runs in the inning with Angel Clark scoring on a line drive, Alex Leaver scored on a line drive, Tanner Johnston and Logan Heard scored on an error.

The Wildcats could not get things going in the game and went scoreless. The Falson added to the lead when Bear Colbert scored on a steal of home and Leaver scored on a ground ball.

Neither team scored in the third. The Falcons went back to work at the bottom of the fourth with Clark and Will Mayfield scoring on a ground ball and Leaver scored on a ground.

The Falcons put the game away in the fifth with a single run by Clark to win the game 10-0.

Alex Leaver pitched for New Lima for five innings, allowing zero runs, striking out ten and walking zero.

The Wildcats and the Falcons got themselves ready for round two directly after with almost the same results as the first game.

New Lima went to bat first and jumped out to an early lead when Clark scored on an error, Mayfield scored on a passed ball, Chase Ray scored on a ground ball and Johnston scored on a ground ball.

The Wildcats’ frustrations continued through the first four innings of the game.

New Lima added two more runs with Colbert scoring on a throw and Mayfield scored on a passed ball.

The Falcon pressure continued in the third with Ray scoring and Logan Peffley scoring on a walk, Colbert and James Julian scored on a line drive.

The Falcons put the game away at the top of the fourth with Ray, Peffley and Julian scoring on a walk, Clark and Colbert scored on a line drive and Heard and Mayfield scored on a ground ball and an error.

The Wildcats had zero runs in the inning but held the Falcons to zero runs at the top of the fifth.

Braggs scored a run in the fifth inning to avoid a shutout, but the Falcons had dominated the game already and won the Class B District Championship with a final score of 17-1.

Pitching for New Lima was Tanner Johnston who pitched five innings, allowing one run and striking out 10 and walking zero.
