New Lima Battles Olive at Home Thursday Night
The New Lima Falcons hosted the Olive Wildcats Thursday night for the Senior Night.
New Lima honored seven seniors during the break between the boys’ and girls’ games.
The Falconettes started the evening off and took control of the quarter with Jazzy Harjo scoring 5 points and one of them was a three-point shot to help the Lady Falcons go 11-6 in the frame.
The Lady Wildcats found their 3-point range in the second and knocked down two, but the Falconettes continued their offensive pressure in the paint and tallied up 13 points before the break.
New Lima had an 11-point lead over Olive heading into the third.
The defense of the Falconettes poured it on in the third and held the Lady Wildcats to just 2 points scored in the quarter. The offense of New Lima went on an aerial attack of threepoint shooting from Harjo (2), Aubrey Washington, and Jaidyn Hinton. The Falconettes extended their lead by 25, heading into the final quarter.
The Lady Wildcats had their best scoring quarter in the fourth with 8 points scored and a trey.
The Lady Falcons let off the gas a little and subbed out their starters and cruised in for the win.
The final score of the game was 47-23 New Lima Falconettes.
Leading for New Lima was Jazzy Harjo with 17 points, 5 three-points, and was two for two from the free throw line. Harjo scored at least one trey in each quarter.
Aubrey Washington had 15 points, one trey and was 2 of 4 from the line.
Layla Cecil, Cheyenne Deatherage and Jayden Hinton each scored 4 points each. Cecil also had two steals and Deatherage had three blocks and one steal.
The New Lima Falcons were next to face the Olive Wildcat boys.
The Falcons had a slow start to the game but kept it close with two three-point shots by Waylon Neal and Bear Colbert.
New Lima settled down and fired back in the second with Logan Heard knocking down two treys and Bear hitting another. The Falcons had closed the gap but were still fighting an uphill battle.
The Wildcats had a 7-point lead at the break.
The Falcons stuck to their game plan in the third and found some success still from three-point range in the quarter, but the Wildcats were firing on all cylinders in the quarter and outscored the Falcons by 14 points.
New Lima was looking at a 21-point deficit heading into the final frame.
The Falcons put up a good fight in the last quarter and scored 10 points, but the lead was out of reach for New Lima.
The Olive Wildcats won 70-50.
Scoring for New Lima Falcons was Waylon Neal with 17 points, two threepoint shots and was one of two from the free throw line.
Bear Colbert had 13 points and three treys.
Logan Heard had 10 points, two treys, two blocks and one steal.
Next up for New Lima is the Bowlegs Tournament the 20th through the 24th of January.
