Posted in:

The New Lima Falcons hosted the Butner Eagles Friday night for their fourth home game of the season.

The Falconettes dominated their game, and the Falcon boys won a nail-biter in double overtime.

The Falconettes took to the court first and controlled the game from the jump. Krissy Griffis and Avaleigh Fields each knocked down a trey to fire up the home crowd. The defense of New Lima held the Lady Eagles scoreless in the first quarter.

The Lady Eagles struggled to get their offensive game going in the game. Savannah Neace scored three points in the second frame to put Butner on the board.

The Lady Falcons continued with their offensive plan and scored another 18 points with Griffis and Fields continuing with their aerial display in the second.

At the halfway point, New Lima had a commanding lead with a score of 36-3.

The Lady Eagles could not get anything going in the second half and continued to struggle. New Lima substituted in other players in the second half. The Butner defense held the Falconettes to 7 points scored in the third.

Butner went scoreless in the final frame as the Falconettes sealed the win with 7 more points scored. The final score of the game was New Lima Falconettes 50, Butner Lady Eagles 3.

Scoring for New Lima was Avaleigh Fields with 11 points, two three-point shots and was 1of 2 from the foul line.

Krissy Griffis scored 10 points, two treys and Jazzy Harjo scored 10 points.

Next up were the Falcon boys and the Butner Eagle boys.

Both teams came to play Friday night. The Falcons edged out Butner by 4 points in the first with Falcon Will Mayfield scoring 8 points and Eagle Avery Baker scoring 9 points.

The defenses from both teams shined in the second quarter as both teams scored 12 points each.

New Lima had a fourpoint lead heading into the half.

The Butner Eagles regrouped during the break and fired back in the third with Baker scoring 10 points to help the Eagles take the lead by two points.

New Lima’s defense stepped up in the final frame and held the Eagles to 6 points in the fourth while the offense came back from being down with just seconds left to score 8 points, tying up the game at the end of regulation.

The game was 46 all heading into overtime. New Lima scored 6 points and Rhyne Bethany scored all six points for Butner to send the game into the second overtime.

Bethany was still on fire for the Eagles and drained a three-point shot to help Butner put up 4 points in the overtime frame.

New Lima’s Angel Clark stepped up and scored 7 points to help the Falcons protect their home field with a final score of 61-56 in a double overtime win.

“After breaking our 26-game losing skid last Friday night at Mason, we knew we had a great opportunity to avenge a 30-point loss to Butner last year,” stated Head Coach Kevin Romine.

“I can’t brag enough as they showed an extremely high-level of heart, determination and grit. It would’ve been easy to fold up when we were down four points with 35 seconds left but we showed a lot of backbone and found a way to tie the game and force it into overtime. It’s a true testament of these boys’ will to compete and how they’ve bought into the new culture of Falcon basketball. Hats off to Coach Wilson and his Eagles as they came to play and were clicking on all cylinders. We need to use the double OT win as an oppor-tunity to springboard into the upcoming games between now and Christmas break.”

Scoring for Butner was Avery Baker with 27 points, one trey and was 2 for 2 from the foul line.

Rhyne Bethany scored 10 points with two treys and was 3 of 4 from the line.

Rogue Bethany had 8 points, one trey and was one of two from the line.

For the Falcons, Will Mayfield scored 18 points and was 2 of 8 from the foul line.

Waylon Neal had 14 points, one trey and was one of two from the line.

Angel Clark had 13 points, 3 assists and was 3 of 7 from the line.

Next up for New Lima is Stonewall tonight at home. The game is set to start at 6:30 p.m.
