Maud Tigers Celebrate Homecoming with Win
On Thursday, October 17th, the Maud Tigers hosted homecoming festivities before their clash against the Midway Chargers. First, Crew Peters and Bridgett Arms were crowned prince and princess. Then, the ceremony saw Bowdee Brooks crowned as king and Jaycee Pack crowned as queen. The Tigers followed these events up by securing their first win of the season, a 50-0 victory over the Chargers.
Homecoming King Bowdee Brooks started out the game by scoring the first two touchdowns of the contest. First a rushing touchdown on the opening drive of the game, followed by a defensive touchdown, a 60-yard fumble recovery score on Midway’s first possession. Maud would strike once more on the last play of the first quarter to give them a 22-0 lead at the end of one.
The Tigers would add three more touchdowns and force three Midway turnovers in the second quarter. Bowdee Brook’s third touchdown of the night came via a 60-yard reception and gave the Tigers a 36-0 lead with four minutes till halftime. With Maud looking to extend that lead even further before the half, Ryan Poull would do just that. With just 35 seconds on the clock, he scampered in from 30 yards out, giving the Tigers a 44-0 lead heading into the locker room.
To start the second half, all Maud needed to do to secure the win was a defensive stop and a touchdown. Leading by more than 45 points in the second half would initiate the “Mercy Rule.” After Midway received the second half kick, the Tigers would force their third fumble of the night and give themselves a chance at victory. A deep ball down the right sideline from Ryan Poull to Bowdee Brooks set up Maud inside the five. Brooks would seal the deal when he ran in for his fourth touchdown of the ballgame. Giving the Tigers their first win of the season in dominant fashion, with a 50-0 win over the Midway Chargers.
Maud was able to score on six of their seven offensive possessions, with four of those six touchdowns coming on the ground. While the Tiger defense forced the Chargers into six turnovers: three fumbles, two turnovers on downs, and an interception.
The Tigers will look to build on their momentum when they travel to battle the Maysville Warriors on Thursday, Oct. 24 at 7 p.m.
