Konawa Tigers Win on Homecoming Night Over Rush Springs

The Konawa Tigers hosted the Rush Springs Redskins Friday night for their homecoming football game. The Tigers took the early lead and never looked back as the Konawa Tigers won 46-26.

Konawa selected Jaygen Goodnight as their Queen, and she was escorted by Jeremiah Flores.

The Redskins won the toss and elected to kick to the Tigers.

Konawa received the kick and returned the ball about ten yards. On the first play from scrimmage, running back Jeremiah Flores took the ball 80-yards in for the touchdown to kick things off. The extra point was good.

Rush Springs moved the ball on offense and put points on the board at the 6:32 mark of the first. The two-point conversion failed.

Jamarcus Brooks of Konawa received the kickoff and returned it to midfield for the Tigers. Konawa moved the ball down inside the ten before the quarter ended.

At the start of the second, quarterback Evan Buxton runs the ball in for the score. The field goal was good. Konawa extended their lead 14-6 at the top of the second.

Rush Springs could not move the ball on their next possession and turned the ball over.

On Konawa’s second play from scrimmage, Flores breaks loose again and runs the ball in for the score. Extra point was good.

On the kickoff to the Redskins, the Tigers pen Rush Springs down at their own 10-yard line. Rush Springs go four and out. Konawa took over at the Redskins 35.

The Tigers moved the ball down inside the redzone and Buxton struck again with a quarterback keeper on a 10-yard touchdown run.

Rush Springs received the ball again and on their first play from scrimmage, the Redskins fumble the ball at midfield and Konawa recovers.

The Tigers could not capitalize on the opportunity and punted the ball.

Rush Springs continued to struggle on offense and punted again.

Konawa ran a few running plays then decided to go through the air. Buxton connected with wide receiver Conyers Alexander at the 20-yard line and Alexander did the rest. The Tigers scored again with less than a minute before the half.

With approximately 40 seconds left in the second quarter, Konawa scored another touchdown to fire up the home crowd.

At the half, Konawa had a commanding 39-6 lead over Rush Springs.

The Redskins scored another touchdown in the third as well as the Tigers. The score was 46-12 heading into the fourth.

The Tigers let off the gas just a bit in the final quarter and Rush Springs managed two more scores to close the gap by 20.

The Konawa Tigers protected their home field on homecoming with a final score of 46-26.

Next up for the Tigers is a home game against Wayne. This game will be Senior Night for the Tigers. Kick off is set for 7 p.m. with the honoring of seniors just before the game.
