Konawa Tigers Win First Round of Playoffs at Mangum
The Konawa Tigers traveled to Mangum Friday night for their first round of playoffs in Class A-II football.
The Mangum Tigers entered the game ranked number 5 in Class A-II while the Konawa Tigers entered the game with a 7-3 record.
The game was a defensive battle in the first quarter as neither team scored to take the lead in the game.
The Konawa Tigers jumped on the board with a touchdown in the second to take the early lead. The defense of Konawa kept Mangum scoreless in the first half.
The Mangum Tigers fired back in the third and tied the game up 7 to 7.
On Konawa’s next possession, the Tigers lit up the scoreboard again with 7 more points scored.
But before the third quarter was up, the Mangum Tigers scored a touchdown and went for the twopoint conversion and converted the points.
The Konawa Tigers were down by a point heading into the final quarter.
The Konawa Tiger defense stepped up again in the fourth and kept the Mangum Tigers scoreless while Konawa scored another touchdown. The field goal was no good.
Time ran out on the Mangum Tigers as the Konawa Tigers won the battle of the Tigers with a final score of 20-15.
The Konawa Tigers move onto the quarterfinals of the playoffs and face #1 Woodland Friday the 22nd at Woodland.
The game is set to kickoff at 7 p.m.
