Konawa Tiger Baseball Wins at Home Friday Night

The Konawa Tigers baseball team hosted the Wetumka Chieftains Friday evening for their first home game of the season and came away with a huge win.

The Konawa Tiger defense stopped the Chieftains from scoring a run in their first trip to the plate. The Tigers offense went to bat and jumped on the board when Tyler Whitley, Hayden Moore, Cooper McKeel and Raydon Sitton all scored on walks.

The Chieftains lit up the scoreboard on a walk in the second. They went three-and-out after.

The Tigers went back on offense and Moore scored on a steal of home. Sitton scored before the inning ended.

Konawa had a 6-point lead heading into the third inning. The Chieftains went three-and-out in the inning. The Tigers continued with their offense and scored when Moses Isaacs advanced, Bennett Henson scored on an advance and Moore scored on a walk.

Konawa had a commanding lead heading into the fourth with a score of 10-1.

The Wetumka Chieftains went three-and-out again at the top of the inning.

The Konawa Tigers took to the plate at the bottom of the inning and Isaacs scored on an advance with the bases loaded. The game was called.

The Konawa Tigers won at home with a final score of 11-1.

Pitching for Konawa was Tyler Whitley who pitched 3 1/3 innings, allowing one run, striking out seven and walking two.

Next up for Konawa is the Wewoka Tournament on the 13th, 14th and 15th of March.

The Tigers will play the Strother Yellowjackets on Thursday the 13th at 12:30 p.m.

The next home game for the Tigers is on the 17th against Earlsboro. The games are set to start at 3 p.m. starting with the junior high and followed by the high school.
