Konawa and Varnum Show Out At State XC Championships

Saturday afternoon at Edmond Santa Fe High School, several Seminole County high school cross country runners ran their best at the OSSAA State Cross Country Meet.

Representing the Konawa Tigers was Tanner Johnson and Rebeckah Sitton and Representing the Varnum Whippets was Cooper Smith and Karsyn Lowery.

The Class 2A girls ran at 12:25 p.m. and Rebeckah of Konawa ran her personal best with a time of 14:50 in the two-mile.

Tanner Johnson of Konawa ran his best in the 5K with a time of 18:38.

“Making it to State as an individual runner is incredibly challenging, and these runners did just that,” stated Head Coach Jake Walker.

“Coach Norman and I are so proud of these two and the team for a great season. These kids have put in so much work and have all improved. We look forward to seeing all of their future running accomplishments.”

In the Class A girl’s race, Karsyn Lowery of Varnum placed 11th in the State with a time of 13:24.73 in the 3.2K run.

Cooper Smith of Varnum did not get to run due to implement weather. The 2A 5K boys’ race was postponed until Wednesday at 4 p.m.
