The Five Longest NFL Field Goals, Including Jaguar’s Cam Little’s 70-Yarder

Posted in:

YAHOO SPORTS - Jacksonville Jaguars kicker Cam Little made unofficial NFL history on Saturday night at home in his team’s preseason game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Little’s outrageous 70-yard field goal is the longest ever made in an NFL game, preseason or regular season. We’re going to give the preseason its due, even if the NFL does not when making official records.

“Can’t lie, there was probably a little bit of doubt,” Little said. “But I mean, we attempted a lot of long field goals in training camp. Had some 60, probably 65-pluses before [in practice]. And so, you know, I really wanted to just go out there and see what it would do.”

The kick appeared to cross the crossbar with 3 to 4 yards to spare. Had it counted, it would have broken Justin Tucker’s NFL record of 66 yards, which he made against the Detroit Lions on Sept. 26, 2021. That game was played inside at Ford Field.

There have been eight unsuccessful field goal attempts of 70-plus yards in the Super Bowl era, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.

Little celebrated wildly after the kick, delivering several fist pumps. Holder Logan Cooke, who had raised his hands in the air immediately after the ball left Little’s foot, gave him a shove. Travis Hunter was the first of the players who left the sideline to reach Little and gave him a celebratory chest bump before the kicker was mobbed by the rest of his teammates.

Little, a 2024 sixth-round pick out of Arkansas, made 27 of 29 field goal attempts as a rookie. He made five of his six attempts from 50 or more yards, including a 59-yarder that tied Josh Scobee’s record for the longest in franchise history.

When Coen called timeout with one second remaining in the first half, he looked over at Little to gauge his reaction to attempting the 70-yard kick. There was no hesitation.

“Me and Logan were like, ‘We want to kick it. We want to kick it,’” Little said. “When he gave me the opportunity ... we went out there, and adrenaline’s a beautiful thing.”

Little, who left the field with the football, said about a half-hour after the game that he still hadn’t seen the ball cross the crossbar. He is 6-foot-1 and sometimes has a hard time seeing over the offensive linemen, he said, but he knew it had a chance.

“That was pretty cool to see, huh?” Jaguars coach Liam Coen said.

What are the longest kicks in NFL history in this loose criteria? Well, we’ve compiled the five longest kicks in either a preseason or regular season game. Sure, the NFL only counts two of these, but we’re having fun.

Let’s run through these five field goals real quick.

Jaguars kicker Cam Little, 70 yards, 2025 (preseason) Cowboys kicker Brandon Aubrey, 66 yards, 2024 (preseason) Ravens kicker Justin Tucker, 66 yards, 2021 (regular season) Cowboys kicker Brandon Aubrey, 65 yards, 2024 (regular season) Broncos kicker Ola Kimrin, 65 yards, 2002 (preseason)
