Bowlegs Host 47th Annual Basketball Tournament

Bowlegs hosted their 47th Annual Basketball Tournament this past weekend with eight high school teams participating.

Seminole county had Bowlegs, Butner, Konawa and New Lima schools participating in the tournament.

The Butner Eagle boys started their first round of the tournament facing the Macomb Hornets Thursday evening. Butner Eagles fell to the Hornets in the second half with a score of 41-68. Next the Eagles faced the Paoli Pugs Friday in their second round. Butner lost the game 36-63.

The Butner Lady Eales faced the Macomb Lady Hornets Thursday for their first round of the tournament. The Lady Eagles struggled on offense and lost 7-75. Next the Lady Eagles faced the New Lima Falconettes for the Consolation Championship. Butner could not get anything going and fell 19-63.

The New Lima Falconettes faced the Konawa Lady Tigers for their first round and battled four quarters. The game was close, but the Falconettes came up short with a final score of 33-37. Next up for the Falconettes was the Graham-Dustin Lady Chieftains. The Lady Falcons took care of business and defeated Graham- Dustin 52-10. The win put the Falconettes against the Butner Lady Eagles for the Consolation Championship. The Falconettes dominated the game and won the Consolation Championship 63-19.

The New Lima boys started their tournament facing the Bowlegs Bison Thursday. The Falcons fell short in their first round 55-62 and moved on to face Grah-Dustin Friday. The Falcons dominated the game and won 79-19. The Falcons now faced the Paoli Pugs for the Consolation Championship Saturday. The game went down to the wire with the New Lima Falcons winning the Consolation Championship with a final score of 35-31.

The Konawa Lady Tigers took on the New Lima Lady Falcons first to start their tournament on Thursday. The Lady Tigers battled all four quarters and pulled out the victory with a final score of 37-30. Next the Lady Tigers faced the Moss Lady Pirates Friday. The Lady Pirates proved to be too much, and the Lady Tigers fell 35-55. The Lady Tigers now faced the Bowlegs Lady Bison for third place Saturday. It was a close first quarter with the Lady Tigers just edging out Bowlegs 10-8. The Lady Tigers controlled the second with McKenzie Alford scoring 6, with one three-point shot and Kadie Jencik scoring 8 points to go on a 16-3 run before the half. Bowlegs fired back in the third quarter with Cira Parsons scoring 8 points and one trey to help the Lady Bison go on a 13-9 run. The game was a slugfest as the teams went back and forth in the final frame. The Konawa Lady Tigers edged out the Lady Bison 41-31 for third place.

Cira Parsons led the Lady Bison with 16 points with two treys and McKenzie Alford led for Konawa with 19 points with two treys.

The Konawa Tiger boys faced the Graham-Dustin to start off their tournament. The Tigers controlled the game from the start and won the game 79-20. The Tigers moved on to face the Bowlegs Bison Friday evening. The game was a close and tough battle, but the Konawa Tigers fell short with a final score of 41-44. The Tigers moved on to face the Macomb Hornets for third place. The Konawa Tiger boys controlled the game in the second half and won the game 57-38 for third place.

The Bowlegs Lady Bison were supposed to face the Paoli Lady Pugs for their first opponent of the tournament but Paoli didn’t have enough players to play Thursday. The game was forfeited and the Lady Bison moved onto face the Macomb Lady Hornet Friday night. The Lady Bison fought to the end but came up short of the victory. Macomb won 60-55. The Lady Bison moved on to face Konawa for third place Saturday. The game went back and forth as both teams left everything on the court. The Konawa Lady Tigers pulled out the win with a final score of 41-31 for third place.

The Bowlegs Bison boys started their tournament facing the New Lima Falcons Thursday. The Bison boys fought hard and pulled out the win with a score of 62-55. The Bison boys moved on to face the Konawa Tiger boys Friday for their second-round game. The game was a nail-biter as the game came down to the wire. The Bison boys pulled out another victory with a final score of 44-41. The Bowlegs Bison now faced the Moss Pirates for the Championship Saturday evening.

The first quarter was an even matchup. Hudson Jasna and Cayxin Parsons of Bowlegs knocked down a trey in the quarter to help tie things 10-10.

The matchup continued in the second as both teams scored 11 points each.

It was 21-21 heading into the third. The Pirates took the lead in the quarter with Michael Simmrell scoring 9 points. Cylas Mack of Bowlegs found his three-point range in the quarter to help the Bison stay in the game. The final frame was another close matchup, but the Pirate lead was just out of reach as time ran out for Bowlegs.

The Bowlegs Bison boys came away with Runner-up and the Moss Pirates won the Championship 43-36.

Leading the way for Bowlegs was Hudson Jasna with 12 points, one trey and was one of four from the foul line.

Cylas Mack had 9 points with one trey and Tyler Lee had 6 points on the evening.
