Bowlegs Bison Win Both Games on Homecoming Night
The Bowlegs Bison hosted the Butner Eagles Tuesday night for their homecoming basketball game and won both the girls’ and boys’ game to protect their home court.
Bowlegs elected Melissa Burns as their Queen and was escorted by Seth Leewright.
The Bowlegs Lady Bison faced the Butner Lady Eagles first to start the evening off.
It was a slow-moving quarter for both teams, but the Lady Bison took the lead with Kloe Oyler knocking down a trey and adding two more points to help Bowlegs in the first.
Bowlegs’ Ruthie Dunagan found her three-point range in the second as the Lady Bison extended their lead before the half.
The Lady Eagles were down by 6 points heading into the third quarter.
The Lady Bison continued with their offensive pressure and went on an 11-5 run in the frame. Butner Lady Eagle Gabby Banks knocked down a trey to fire up the visiting crowd.
The Lady Eagles had a 12-point deficit to tackle heading into the fourth quarter.
Bowlegs stuck to their game plan in the final quarter and went on an 11-7 run to win their homecoming game 35-19. Leading the way for the Lady Eagles was Gabby Banks with 7 points, two treys and was one of two from the free throw line.
Jaycee Johnson had 4 points on the evening.
Leading for the Lady Bison was Kloe Oyler with 12 points, two treys and was two of five from the line.
Ruthie Dunagan had 11 points, one trey and was two of two from the line.
The Bison boys were next to protect their court against the Butner Eagles.
Bowlegs jumped out to an early lead with Cayxin Parsons knocking down two treys and Cylas Mack and Kingston Burgess finding their three-point range also to help the Bison go on a 21-10 run in the first.
The Butner Eagles made a rally in the second with Rhyne Bethany scoring 13 points, two coming from three-point range in the quarter but the Bison boys also found their three-point range and scored four treys from Hunter Hamilton, Tyler Lee and Burgess to extend their lead.
The Eagles were down by 19 points heading into the third quarter.
Bowlegs were still riding on their momentum from the first half and continued to roll in the third with more three-point aerial shots. The defense of the Bison held the Eagles to 7 points scored.
The Bison boys let off the gas a little in the final frame. Butner could not close the gap in the fourth and the Bowlegs Bison stampede in for the win with a final score of 87-36.
Leading the way for the Eagles was Rhyne Bethany with 20 points, three treys and was one for one from the line.
Rogue Bethany had 8 points and was two for two from the line.
Leading for the Bison was Cayxin Parsons with 19 points, two treys and was one of two from the line.
Darius Morrison had 18 points and was two of four from the line.
Kingston Burgess had 17 points. 15 of those points were from five three-point shots.
Next up for the Butner Eagles is the Bowlegs Basketball Tournament the 19-24th of January.
The next home game for the Eagles is on the 27th against Midway. The junior high will start at 4 p.m. followed by the Lady Eagles at 6 p.m.
