The 48th Annual Bowlegs Basketball Tournament is in the Books

The 48th Annual Bowlegs Basketball Tournament preceded to take place last week, but inclement weather (snow) postponed the championship games. The games started on Wednesday instead of Thursday. The Championship games were moved out a week later on Saturday the 31st.

The Butner Lady Eagles started their tournament off facing the Moss Lady Pirates on Wednesday. The Lady Eagles had no answer for Moss and lost 51-4. The Lady Eagles faced the Paoli Lady Pugs next. The Lady Eagles put up a good fight in the matchup but fell just shy of the win. The final score of the game was 21-25 Paoli.

The Butner Eagle boys faced the Moss Pirate boys to start their tournament off on Wednesday. Moss proved to be too much and won the match 60-30. The Eagles moved on to face the New Lima Falcons on Thursday. The Eagles struggled again on offense and fell 37-68.

The Bowlegs Lady Bison started the tournament out on Wednesday and took on the New Lima Falconettes. Bowlegs struggled on offense and fell to the Lady Falcons 35-72. New Lima moved on to face the Graham Dustin Lady Riverhawks Thursday and dominated the game and finished with a final score of 60-25. The Lady Bison now faced the Paoli Lady Pugs for the Consolation Championship. Come Saturday, the Bowlegs Lady Bison take the Consolation Championship as the Paoli Lady Pugs forfeit the game.

The Bowlegs Bison boys faced the Graham-Dustin Riverhawks to start their tournament on Wednesday. The Bison stampeded the Riverhawks and ran away with a big win 82-35. Bowlegs moved on to face the Konawa Tigers on Thursday. The game was an even matchup, but the Tigers edged out the win with a final score of 61-65 Konawa. Bowlegs now moved on to face the Macomb Hornets for third place on Saturday. Bowlegs jumped out to an early lead with a 15-10 run in the first quarter. The Hornets struggled but kept the game close with eleven points scored in the second. The Bison boys continued with their offensive game plan and took a 10-point lead into the half. Macomb regrouped and fired back in the third quarter with fifteen points, but the Bison offense kept plugging and kept an 8-point lead heading into the final frame. Bowlegs continued with their offense and never let off the gas in the fourth. Darius Morrison scored 6 points and Hunter Hamilton and Kingston Burgess each knocked down a trey to help the Bison pull out the win 62-46 over Macomb for the Third Place Championship.

Leading for Bowlegs was Darrius Morrison with 17 points and was one for one from the line.

Seth Leewright scored 13 points and was five of seven from the line.

The New Lima Lady Falconettes took on the Bowlegs Lady Bison on Wednesday. New Lima controlled the game and won with a final score of 72-35. New Lima now faced the Konawa Lady Tigers on Thursday. The game went down to the wire in a very close battle. Konawa came away with the win with a final score of 34-32. The Lady Falconettes now faced the Moss Lady Pirates for third place on Saturday. The Lady Falconettes struggled on offense throughout the game but never gave up. The Falconettes fell behind but battled to the end.

The Lady Falconettes lost 37-55.

The New Lima Falcons started their tournament off facing the Macomb Hornets Wednesday. New Lima couldn’t get anything going on offense and fell 40-76. The Falcons moved on to face the Butner Eagles on Thursday and dominated the game 68-37. The Falcons now moved on to face the Graham-Dustin Riverhawks for the Consolation Championship Saturday. The New Lima took off from the jump. Falcons’ Waylon Neal scored 14 points in the frame and helped New Lima take a 26-9 run in the first. The Riverhawks fired back in the second and rallied up 18 points to try and close the gap, but the Falcons still had a 13-point lead heading into the break. The Falcons went back to their offensive pressure in the second half and took control of the game with some three-point aerial shooting that the Riverhawks could not catch.

New Lima won the Consolation Championship 80-45.

Leading for New Lima was Waylon Neal with 33 points, three treys, and was two of four from the free throw line.

Logan Heard scored 18 points, four treys and was four of five from the line.

The Konawa Lady Tigers kicked off their tournament facing the Graham-Dustin Lady Riverhawks Wednesday. The Lady Tigers dominated the game and won 74-31. Konawa now faced the New Lima Falconettes on Thursday. The game was a buzzer beater with the Lady Tigers pulling out the victory 34-32. The Lady Tigers now moved on to the Championship game against the Macomb Lady Hornets. The Lady Hornets came to play as the Lady Tigers struggled on offense. Macomb had a 7-point lead heading into the second quarter. Macomb applied more offensive pressure in the second as the Lady Hornets went on a 20-7 run before the half. Konawa could not get their offense going in the third and the Lady Hornets extended their lead. The Lady Tigers were down by 24 points heading into the final quarter. Konawa’s Autumn Yott and Mya Tafoya found their threepoint range in the fourth and knocked down a trey each to fire up their crowd, but time was not on the Lady Tiger’s side as the Macomb Lady Hornets won the game 62-35 and the Konawa Lady Tigers won the Runner Up Championship.

Leading for the Lady Tigers was Autumn Yott and Kassidy Lowell who scored 10 points each in the game.

The Konawa Tiger boys took on the Paoli Pugs to start their tournament off. The Tigers controlled and dominated the game with a final score of 72-24. The Tigers now faced the Bowlegs Bison on Thursday. The game went back and forth with several lead changes, but the Tigers persevered and won 65-61. The Tigers moved on to face the Moss Pirates for the Championship game Saturday. The matchup was a good one as the Pirates kept it close, but the Tigers outscored the Pirates by five with Messiah Osborne knocking down a trey and three from the field. Konawa fell into a hole in the second and only scored nine points as the Pirates just edged out Konawa on a 15-9 run before the half. Konawa regrouped during the break and got back into the game on offense in the third. The Tigers were still down but by only two points heading into the fourth and final frame. The defense of the Tigers stepped up and held the Pirates to only 6 points scored in the quarter as the offense kept the momentum rolling and pulled out the win with a final score of 52-49 to win the Championship.

Leading for the Tigers was Tegan Stalnaker with 18 points, one trey and was three of five from the line.

Messiah Osbourne scored 17 points, four treys and was three of five from the line.
