…And Then What Happened?
Posted in:

Christian speakers who use scattered Bible verses to form sermons need to be careful. Wherever each verse is taken from, the speaker needs to read enough in that particular book of the Bible about what was occurring and to whom it was written about. This is called taking a verse out of context and using it to create their own message instead of applying it as it was used initially.

Some groups of people branch off forming new churches because of differing opinions when interpreting Scriptures. That’s why it’s important to understand what is occurring at the time a verse is used. Paul addressed problems addressing women’s clothing and actions during church services. These instructions for their problems back then has been used for eons since. This has limited women’s roles and actions ever since.

Another text that has been misunderstood is from the story of Noah’s ark. All children’s books illustrating the animals going into the ark are not accurate.

In Genesis 7:1-3, it reads ‘Then the Lord said to Noah, Come into the ark, you and all your household for you alone I have seen righteous before Me in this generation. You shall take with you seven each of every clean animal a male and female, two each that are unclean, a male and female; also seven each of the birds of the air, male and female to keep offspring alive on the face of all the earth’ (NKJV).

It mentions in other places of them entering two by two, so they think that’s how many of each species went in. This is what happens when study of that event is not thoroughly done.

Another example is taken from Colossians 2: 8 and 16. In the 8th verse: See to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deception.., according to the traditions of men, the elementary principles of the world, rather than according to Christ.’ In the 16th verse... ‘no one is to act as your judge in regarding a festival day or a new moon, or food or drink or sabbaths. Many denominations concentrate on how they dress or what they drink, when, if you think about it, if they imagined Jesus right beside them every day, their actions would more than likely be different.

An added note here is about sin. Sin is still sin, no matter if you go to church or don’t go. Now some church ministers don’t preach what is sin because they are gradually accepting sinful choices people are practicing. Some have told me the Bible is for the past.

Some Bibles are now leaving out Scriptures about sin--and even hell--because people don’t want to think about the consequences of sin. If Jesus was recorded for saying in Matthew 5:18, ‘For truly I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, one ot or one title shall in no way pass from the Law till all is fulfilled,’ then what or who changed the rules to sin openly now?

‘As in the days of Noah, so shall it be for Christ’s second coming,’ is found in Matthew 24:37-39 and in Luke 17;26-30. Read how people were living before the Flood. If you don’t have a Bible these verses can be research by Google. And don’t take Scripture out of context. Read whole chapters to understand what, where, when, and who is being discussed.

Scripture is taken from the New King James Version Bible. Share your blessings.
