Virginia Martin

Virginia Ruth Chambers Nicholson Martin passed from this earth on September 10, 2019 at the age of 89 years. The oldest daughter of James Michael and Ruby Jane Chambers, she was born in Brownsville, Texas and died in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.

Virginia graduated from Wewoka, OK High School in 1948, and married William M. (Bill) Nicholson, JR on June 4, 1949 in Gainesville, Texas at the age of

19. She and Bill lived in Wewoka, OK until 1960 when they moved to Enid, OK. While living in Enid, Virginia worked for various attorneys. In 1972, she and Bill moved to Woodward, Oklahoma, and then moved back to Wewoka their hometown in 1975.

Virginia worked for Oklahoma Attorney General Jan Eric Cartwright in Oklahoma City as his office manager from 1979 to 1983, commuting from Wewoka. After Mr. Cartwright left office, she worked for the State of Oklahoma Department of Human Services in Wewoka, where she retired.

After being married for 39 plus years, Bill passed away on May 26, 1988. Virginia subsequently married Harrell Eugene (Gene) Martin on December 6, 2000. She and Gene were married just over 14 years until his passing on December 28, 2014.

Virginia and Bill welcomed their daughter Marcia into their world in July 1955, and in 1963, Kurt joined the family.

Virginia was a social person. She has dear friends from her high school days. She worked with the Wewoka High School Alumni Association to put on various events during reunion times in Wewoka. She was a member of the Wewoka Church of Christ.

Those family members preceding Virginia in death include her Mother and Father – Ruby and James, her first husband Bill, and her second husband Gene.

Virginia’s passing leaves behind her daughter Marcia Ann (Nicholson) Henderson and her husband Don of Tulsa, OK; her son Kurt Nicholson, grandchildren Chris and Jeff Henderson, Brittany, Brandon, and Shane Nicholson; her sister Faye Pauline Broadway of Pooler, Georgia. Other family members include various nieces and nephews.

Graveside services 2:00 PM Thursday, September 12, 2019 at Oakwood Cemetery under the direction of Stout-Phillips Funeral Home.
