Thurman Smith

Bowlegs resident Thurman Smith died Friday, October 7, 2022 in Sulphur.

Thurman, the son of Edward and Daisy (Chandler) Smith, was born March 7, 1931 in Seminole. Thurman proudly served in the US Army during the Korean War. On April 10, 1954, he married Betty Jo Owen, in Seminole. He and Betty Jo were married 42 years prior to her passing on August 22, 1996. Thurman was an oil field worker. He worked for BJ Hughes for 33 years. He loved to hunt and fish, work in his garden, watch Gunsmoke, and tease his friends and family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a son, Gary Strayhorn; a grandson, Darrin Strayhorn; three brothers, and one sister.

Thurman is survived by his son, Randy Strayhorn

of Shawnee; daughter, Tammy Eller of Bowlegs; 6 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and 2 great great grandchildren; and many other family and friends.

Graveside services were held Tuesday, October 11, at 2:00 P.M. at Little Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole.
