Simon Lee Harjo, lifelong Seminole resident passed from this life February 13, 2023 in Seminole, Oklahoma at the age of 58.

Simon was born April 10, 1964. Simon was a proud member of the Seminole Nation of Oklahoma, Tusekia Harjo band.

He was a Seminole High School Graduate. Following high school Simon worked at various construction jobs, he went on to work for many years in the Oklahoma oilfields with his brothers, nephews and son.

Simon loved to spend time fishing and watching football. He was an avid OU fan.

Simon never met a stranger, everyone was family to him. “Niecey” and “Nephew” were his go to names for all he met.

Simon loved his family with his whole heart, and told them so every time he saw them. He was a jokester, one of his favorite things to do was cut up and give his nephews and nieces a hard time.

Simon was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin Tanyan in 1988 and Betty Tanyan in 2010. Grandmother Lina Harjo. Five brothers Curtis Tanyan Harjo, Glenn Tiger, Christopher Tanyan, Anthony Tanyan and Jimmy “Sonny Boy” Harjo. Two Sisters Ruby Tanyan and Carolyn Talamasey. One daughter Tammara Harjo and one grandson Auron Palmer.

Simon is survived by three children, Sons Kenneth Lee Harjo and wife Kenya of Vernon, Texas, Simon “Little Simon” Harjo JR and wife Deanna Holata of Tecumseh, Oklahoma and daughter Heather Palmer and husband Blaine of Tecumseh, Oklahoma.

Two brothers Albert Tiger of Seminole, Oklahoma and Clifton Tanyan and wife Tina of Seminole, Oklahoma. Two sisters in law Brenda Tiger of Seminole, Oklahoma and Ruthie Tiger of Seminole, Oklahoma. Two uncles George Harjo of OKC, Ok, and Jimmy Dean Harjo and Denise of Seminole, Oklahoma. One Aunt Donna Kay Renton and husband William of Seminole, Oklahoma. Seven grandchildren and numerous nephews, nieces, and dear friends. Simon will be taken to his sister in laws’ house on Wednesday February 15, he will then be taken back to the funeral home on Thursday afternoon and a wake will be held at 5:30pm February 16, 2023. Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, February 17, 2023 at 1:00PM at Swearingen Funeral Chapel with Kevin Fox and Eric Thlocco officiating.

Interment will follow at The Harjo Family Cemetery at Tate Mountain.

Simon will be laid to rest beside his mother.

Simon was loved by all who knew him and will be deeply missed.

Casket bearers will be: William Snyder, Grant Campbell, Ben Martinez, Eddie Martinez, Marquis Fixico, and Anthony Adams.

Honorary Casket Bearers: George Harjo, Jimmy Dean Harjo, Zack Cheater, Romero Louie, Robby Tiger, Jimpsey Tiger, James Fixico and Ethan Tanyan.
