Richard Anthony Jones was called home April 27th, 2022 at the age of 72. He was born January 21st, 1950 in Seminole to the already departed (and dearly missed) Fred Robert and Lula (Kernell) Jones.

He attended Pleasant Grove and played multiple sports until he began to work in the oil fields at the age of 16. There he met many life long friends and perfected the setup and movement of machines that they said couldn’t be done.

Family obligations pulled him away to soon though and he managed a layover terminal in OKC for many years until his children were grown and he could return to the open road he loved so much. In a time before GPS he could talk you from N.Y. to California over the phone with very few pauses as there was very little of the U.S. that he didn’t’ know off the top of his head.

He never forgot his roots though and after a lifetime and two careers away he wanted to return to be close to his brothers, family, and his beloved Seminole and Creek heritage.

He enjoyed reading and listening to classic country music. OU football could be heard every Saturday and although he listened to Big Bob do the play by play he always gave his own announcements in his full on “colorful” and loud way. Even in the pre Stoops era he never missed a game he was home to hear.

Left behind to honor and miss Richard are his loving wife Becky Jones, his children Thomas and Sherri Palmer of Prague, Krista Jones of Tecumseh, Mark Jones of Broken Arrow, Candice Jones of Tecumseh, Tonya and Tom Cotter of Chandler, Donald Akens of Tecumseh, Aaron and Jenny Akens of Tecumseh, and Chris Akens and Amanda Kelly of Golden, MO, Anthony Gene Jones and Shelby Decuir of Newcastle. He is survived by his younger brother Mark and Tammy Jones of Seminole as well as twenty grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family.

He always taught us to put family first and when things were hard, you pull together and gather strength from God and those around you.

It is with great remorse and rejoicing that we say “Daddy, your job is done, we love you, and we will be okay”.

Pallbearers will be Chris Akens, Brandon Jones, John Dennis, Robbie Tiger, Cu-lv Jones, and Lvm’he Kenon Jones. Honorary pallbearers are Jimpsey Tiger, Patrick Fox, Joshua Jones, Elliot Jones, and Aaron Akens.

A wake service will be Friday, April 29, 2022, at 7:00 P.M. at Achena Presbyterian Church.

Services will be Saturday, April 30, 2022, at 2:00 P.M. at Achena Presbyterian Church, with Kevin Fox and Eric Thlocco officiating. Interment will follow at the Kernell Family Cemetery in Seminole. Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole.
