Tyler Nelda June Tyler, Earlsboro resident and Seminole businesswoman, and longtime member of the Earlsboro First Baptist Church, passed away on June 3, 2024 in Norman, Oklahoma at the age of 78. She was born on April 17, 1946 in Atoka, Oklahoma to Earnest and Vivian Sowell.

Nelda attended Earlsboro Public Schools and graduated in 1964. She proudly furthered her education during the next years attending Oklahoma Institute of Technology from 1965-1966. In 1988 she went to Rose State College and was on Vice Presidents Honor Roll. She also attended Seminole State College where she earned her degree to become a certified general appraiser in 2011.

Nelda became a certified general appraiser and built Tyler Enterprises in Wewoka and Seminole. If you have been associated with her in the past you know she is hard working, honest, sincere, talented and eager to assist you in anyway, with over the top leadership. She believed positive thinking and prayer are easily within your grasp and are elements that a person could put into immediate action. She lived by “everything is possible for him who believes”-Mark 9:32.

Nelda’s connection to her community brought many professional accomplishments including from 1981-1983 Oklahoma Texas Meat Processor of Directors, 1983-1985 Eastern Oklahoma State College, 1995-1996 Seminole Historical Society President, 1996-1997 Beta XI Woman of the Year, 1998-1999 Beta Sigma Phi President, 1998 The Farm Bureau Women’s Committee, 1998 Chamber Commerce Wewoka President, 2000 Chamber Commerce President, 2005 Oklahoma Federation BPW ID Representative, 2006 “Seminole” BPW Women of the Year, 2009-2010 President of Oklahoma Federation of Business Women Inc., 2011 became one of the first certified general appraisers in Oklahoma.

She enjoyed scrapbooking, painting, double pointed knitting, crocheting, and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Nelda was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Howard Tyler, and 9 siblings.

Nelda is survived by her daughters, Belinda Sutterfield, Melinda McCray; grandchildren, Tyler Sutterfield and wife Ashley, Joyce McCray, Jarrod Sutterfield and wife Kayleigh, Katie Rhodes and husband Daniel; 10 great grandchildren; sister, Jenny Spurlock, along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Nelda will be dearly missed by her friends and family. She will be reunited with her beloved Howard, the love of her life.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M., Monday, June 10, 2024 at Stout-Phillips Funeral Chapel in Wewoka, OK with Pastor Mark Streetman officiating, assisted by Rev. Cindy Robertson. Interment to follow at Wetumka Cemetery in Wetumka, OK.

Pallbearers: Daniel Rhodes, Tyler Sutterfield, Jarrod Sutterfield, Patrick Davis, Donald Shastid, Robert Henrickson.

Honorary Pallbearers: Grandsons Arrangements by Stout-Phillips Funeral Home in Wewoka, Oklahoma.
