Nargie Ree Griffis (nee Davis) was born on January 6,1929 to Bellzora and James Emmitt Davis in Wetumka, Oklahoma and passed from this life on Wednesday, July 28, 2021 in Oklahoma City.

Nargie was the 12th of thirteen children.

Her parents and all of her siblings have preceded her in death.

Nargie started her education at Wisner Chapel located in Wetumka, Oklahoma. In 1941, the family moved to Wewoka, Oklahoma where she continued her education. Nargie joined St. Joseph Baptist Church at the early age of 12. She was very active in the church until her illness in 2016, holding many positions such as: Church Secretary, Treasurer, Deaconess, Women’s Mission Ministry, Church Christmas and Easter program Director. Nargie was the oldest member of the church, having belonged for 80 years.

In 1946, Nargie married Houston Lee Franklin. From this union, Nargie had four daughters: Jearline Williams (Eddie), Washington DC; Joyce Richard, St. Louis, MO; Mary Frances Boone (Howard), San Antonio, TX and Gilda Keesee (Alvin), Edmond, OK. When the girls were young, the marriage ended in divorce.

In 1963, Nargie married Haywood Griffis and from that union another daughter was born, Roshawn Thomas (Delbert), Oklahoma City, OK. Nargie and Haywood were happily married for 51 years, until Haywood’s death in 2014.

In addition to her parents, siblings, and beloved husband Haywood, Nargie is preceded in death by her daughter, Joyce.

To treasure her memory, Nargie leaves her four daughters: Jearline, Mary Frances, Gilda, and Roshawn.

Graveside service for Nargie will be Saturday, August 7, 2021 at 10:30 AM at the Westwood Cemetery in Wewoka, OK. Officiating will be Pastor Clive Cochran.
