Michael Harjo

Michael Ray Harjo, 58 year old Norman, Oklahoma resident, passed from this life Sunday, February 9, 2020 at Norman Regional Hospital in Norman.

He was born July 3, 1961 in Topeka, Kansas to parents Betty L. (Mahardy) Harjo and Herbert N. “Hap” Harjo.

Michael earned his economics degree from Minnesota University. He then worked as a purchasing agent for Medical Research for Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts, University of Minnesota, Harvard University and San Jose University. Michael was also an entrepreneur owning and operating his business “White Wolf U.S.A.”.

Michael was a member of the Absentee Shawnee Tribe of Oklahoma.

On May 20, 1998 Michael married Nicholas Sarantakis in San Jose, California.

Survivors include his husband of 21 years, Nicholas Sarantakis of the home; his mother, Betty L. (Mahardy) Harjo Watson and her companion Marty Ellis of Norman, Oklahoma; four brothers, Brian Watson of Shawnee, Oklahoma, Vincent “Vince” Watson and his wife Carol of Mannford, Oklahoma, Tracy Watson of Mannford, Oklahoma and Lance Watson of Mannford, Oklahoma; and a host of other family and friends.

Michael was preceded in death by his father, Herbert N. “Hap” Harjo and by a cousin who was like his sister, Linda Harjo Ellis.

A wake service is scheduled for Wednesday, February 12, 2020 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole, Oklahoma with Pastor Paul Fixico officiating the wake service.

Funeral Services are scheduled for 1:00 p.m., Thursday, February 13, 2020 at Hilltop Indian Presbyterian Church in Wewoka, Oklahoma. Pastor Curtis Kenny and Pastor Rex Hailey will officiate the service. The Church is located South on Ocheesee Street then West on 18th Street in Wewoka, Oklahoma.

Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma.
