LeRoy Laster Sanderson passed away in Holdenville, Oklahoma on Thursday, July 28, 2022, ate the age of 84.

LeRoy was born September 15, 1937 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to the late Raymond and Letha Sanderson. He married his wife, Mary (Renken) Sanderson on June 20, 1964 and spent 52 years together.

LeRoy grew up in Tulsa and graduated form Will Rogers High School. He attended Oklahoma State University and Tulsa University for a year before joining the United States Air Force in 1957. He was trained as a jet engine mechanic for F-100 and F-104 airplanes while stationed in Pensacola, Florida and Fukuoka, Japan. While stationed in Japan, LeRoy made lifelong friends and he returned to visit his friends many times. After the Air Force,

LeRoy worked for Skelly Oil, Getty Oil, and finally Texaco Oil in Tulsa, Oklahoma, as a bookkeeper for 23 years before relocating his family to Wewoka, Oklahoma to work for his cousin, Ferril Williamson, at Williamson Investment Company, where he was employed until his retirement.

A talented hobbyist mechanic, LeRoy enjoyed restoring and painting cars and airplanes. He and his father began a business, Chevy Sales, and enjoyed working on cars together on the weekends. LeRoy loved to travel and took his family to most of the 50 states, Mexico, and Japan. LeRoy received his pilot’s license in March 1972 and enjoyed flying his family to a variety of locations for many of the family vacations. LeRoy enjoyed spending his retirement working outdoors on his farm with many cows, dogs, and cats, and riding his bulldozer and tractor. LeRoy was a proud member of of the Masons and local Lions Club and served one term as Mayor of Wewoka.

LeRoy was preceded in death by his wife, Mary F. Sanderson, and his parents, Raymond C. Sanderson and Letha I. Sanderson. Survivors include three children: Kim Sanderson (Carlos) of Acapulco, Mexico; Ray Sanderson (Mary) of Wewoka, Oklahoma; Jan Robertson (Will) of Ponca City, Oklahoma; six grandchildren: Mitchell Sanderson of Savannah, Georgia; Madison Alvarez Sanderson of Savannah, Georgia; Ethan Sanderson (Kimber) of Henryetta, Oklahoma; Rachel Sanderson of Norman, Oklahoma; William Robertson II of Granada, Spain; and Lacey Bernabe (Emilio) of Stillwater, Oklahoma, and three great-grandchildren, Kamryn, Karsyn, and Jayce. LeRoy also leaves behind many friends and extended family.

Services will be held at First Baptist Church in Wewoka, Oklahoma on Saturday, August 6, 2022 at 2:00 P.M. with Nathan Brumley officiating. Burial will follow at Holdenville Cemetery in Holdenville, Oklahoma. Viewing will be Thursday, August 4, and Friday, August 5, at Stout-Phillips Funeral Home in Wewoka.

Pallbearers are Will Robertson, Ethan Sanderson, Mitchell Sanderson, William Robertson II, Emilio Bernabe, Jayce Sanderson, and Andy Crockett.
