Leon Clifford Collier, longtime Wewoka, Oklahoma resident, passed away on Monday, December 25, 2023 at the Holdenville General Hospital, Holdenville, Oklahoma. Leon was born on January 10, 1939 in Bowlegs, Oklahoma to Elmer Eugene Collier and Alice Ahlillian (Self) Collier. Leon lived most of his younger years in the Bowlegs community and attended Bowlegs Public Schools and graduated from Bowlegs High School. Leon spent most all his adult life in Wewoka, Oklahoma. He married Bernis Rea Rhoades in Seminole, Oklahoma on June 10, 1961.

Leon worked as a United States Postal Worker and retired after 30 years of service. He served his country in the United States Army as an E5 Sergeant and he was a veteran of the Cold War. He served as a deacon at the Mission Home Missionary Baptist Church North of Wewoka, Oklahoma. He enjoyed watching anything western and taking care of his cows. Leon was a very devoted family man who spent almost every vacation he ever had at Boggs Springs Church Camp in Mena, Arkansas.

Leon leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 62 years, Bernis Rea (Rhoades) Collier of Wewoka, Oklahoma his son; Steven Leon Collier of Elmore City, Oklahoma two daughters; Stacy Denise Briley and her husband Patrick Briley of Poteau, Oklahoma and Karen Michelle Barnhart and her husband Mark Barnhart of Wewoka, Oklahoma, ten grandchildren; Zachary Briley, Holly Barnhart, Hanna Barnhart, Spencer Hill, Grayson Briley, Nicole Barnhart, Ashley Barnhart, Austin Barnhart, Chris Barnhart and Blake Barnhart, two great grandchildren; Parker Avery Barnhart and Baby Girl Briley.

Leon was preceded in death by his parents, his brother A.C. Collier, his sister Delilah (Sissy) Davis and his son Jeffrey Scott Collier.

Memorial services were held Friday, December 29, 2023 at Mission Home Missionary Baptist Church in Wewoka.

Arrangements were under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma.
