Shirley

Shirley Jones Kohl-Stewart was born on September 7, 1934, in Wewoka, Oklahoma. Shirley went to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, October 8, 2022, at the age of 88 in Grapevine, Texas.

Shirley lived in Wewoka until she was 6 years old and then she and her parents moved to Richmond, California and then they moved back to Oklahoma when Shirley was 14 years old. She graduated from Calvin High School in 1953 in three years by attending classes at East Central State College in the summer. Shirley was the Queen of the Junior Class, Toast Mistress of the Junior-Senior Prom, Salutatorian and President of her Senior Class. In the fall of 1954 Shirley began her college career at the University of Oklahoma in Norman. She then taught first grade in Las Animas, Colorado and returned to East Central State College and earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Education in 1958. Shirley served for 37 years as an elementary school teacher, special education teacher, principal and director of special education.

Shirley loved to paint, garden, be outside in nature, take long walks with her dogs, and most of all spend time with her family and two grandchildren. In retirement, she began to paint again and several of her works were chosen to be displayed in the Keller Town Hall. She was a wonderful artist, teacher and beloved

daughter, mother, grandmother and friend to so many. She will be dearly missed.

Shirley is preceded in death by her parents Charles LeRoy Jones and Bessie Margaret (White) Wyatt Oliver of Wewoka and Ada, Oklahoma, her husband Werner Kohl of Ann Arbor, Michigan and two children, Lee Drexal McDaniel and Michael Wayne McDaniel of Ann Arbor, Michigan.

She leaves behind her daughter and son-in-law Louisa and Jason Brunson of Keller, Texas and her two grandchildren Noah Kohl Brunson and Sydney Elyse Brunson of Keller, Texas.

In memory of Shirley, we ask that donations be made to the SPCA or to your local animal shelter. A graveside service will be held at the Oakwood Cemetery in Wewoka, Oklahoma on Saturday, October 15, 2022, at 11:00 AM.
