Karen Marlene Brewer, 80, longtime resident of Bowlegs, Oklahoma, passed from this life on Saturday, April 18, 2020 at St, Anthony Hospital in Shawnee, Oklahoma.

Karen was born on December 18, 1939 in Paden, Oklahoma to Gordon White and Bertha (Southard) White.

Karen came to Seminole, Oklahoma as a young girl in the early 1950’s and attended Seminole Public Schools, starting in the 6th grade started high school in 1952 and graduated from Seminole High School in 1957.

Karen worked as a legal secretary for Seminole attorneys’ Dick Bell and Bob McDaniel for many years. She went to work for the First State Bank in 1982 as a Secretary and later to the First United Bank where she retired on January 2, 2017. She worked in banking for over 34 years. The First United Bank and Trust gave Karen a retirement celebration on December 15, 2017 in honor of her many years of faithful service.

Karen enjoyed gardening and raising her flowers, and all types of yard work.

She was a loving mother and grandmother. Karen and her son Larry, spent many hours, eating out, spending time together, traveling to Branson with the family.

She enjoyed music, shopping, enjoyed cooking, which she was very good at, she always dressed nice and greeted and treated people respectfully, in the public and at the banks where she worked.

She was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Seminole.

Karen married Bedford Brewer on May 12, 1960 at the First Baptist Church in Bowlegs, Oklahoma and he preceded her in death on January 25, 2015. They enjoyed 54 years of marriage together.

Karen is survived by her sons; Michael Brewer and his wife Merry Kay of Piedmont, Oklahoma and Larry Brewer of Bowlegs, Oklahoma , her brother Eldon White and his wife Carol of Lake Jackson, Texas, her grandchildren that she dearly loved, Tyler Holloway Brewer, Parker Samuel Brewer, Jordyn Grace Brewer, her nieces Jennifer White of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Melissa and Paul Genry from Lake Jackson, Texas and many other nieces and nephews.

Graveside services for Karen will be held at 1:00 P.M., Thursday, April 23, 2020 at Maple Grove Cemetery in Seminole, Oklahoma. Nick Atyia will officiate at the service.

Viewing will be available Tuesday and Wednesday till 6:00 P.M. The services will be live streaming on the Swearingen Funeral Home Facebook page, for those unable to attend the graveside services.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations to the American Cancer Society and the American Heart Association.

Due to the state mandates with the Covid19 virus, graveside services are limited to no more than 10 people in attendance, with social distancing.

Arrangements are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma.
