John Jay Nichols, 83 of Seminole passed on August 27, 2021 at Midwest City hospital.

He was born September 1937 in Jackson Mississippi.

John owned and operated various businesses for 60 plus years.

John was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years Jaunita Cowell gone in June 2015 and Grandson Jonathon Nichols March 2020.

John’s parents Claude Reese, whom served with General Pershing and Anna Rosetta Nichols raised 6 boys and 3 girls.

John was known as “Genel” by his brothers and sisters, however his children used to call dad, John Jay Pershing, once we found out he was named after General Pershing.

John is survived by 6 children Timothy Nichols of Shawnee, Deborah (Willis) Griffin of Calvin, Teresa (Robert) Black of Holdenville, Marilyn (Daniel) McMahon of Norman, Rebecca Linker Seminole/ Burkburnett Tx and Kevin Nichols of Shawnee. 17 Grandchildren Michael of Holdenville, Monica of Purcell, Malana of Tyler Tx, Matthew of Calvin, Travis of Holdenville, Scott of Holdenville, Andrew of Wister, Tabbetha of Holdenville, Steven of McKinney Tx, Stephanie of Norman, William of Seminole, Cody of Burkburnett Tx, Chastin of Seminole, Courtney of Maud, Saylee of Maud and Logan of Tecumseh and 27 great grandchildren. Two brothers David of Edmond and Gene of Midwest City and three sisters Mary of Arkansas, Anna of Michigan, and Carolyn of Midwest City.

Casket bearers are: Matthew Griffin, Travis Griffin, Scotty Black, Andy Black, Chastin Nichols, Steven Nichols and Brennan Griffin.

Services will be Thursday, September 2, 2021, at 1:00 P.M. at Swearingen Funeral Chapel in Seminole, with Ray Breeden officiating.

Interment will follow at Rest Haven Memory Garden. Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole.
