Donna Kay Magruder

Donna Kay Magruder, 66, longtime Seminole resident, passed away February 25, 2021 in Shawnee, OK after a courageous battle with COVID. Donna was born November 2, 1954 in Lawton, OK to Bill and Kay (Gentry) Magruder.

Donna grew up in Seminole, graduating in the Class of ‘72. She was active in numerous clubs and band, and awarded outstanding tennis player her senior year. In 2014 she was inducted into the SHS Hall of Fame for tennis. After graduation Donna attended Seminole State to get herAssociates, then getting her Bachelors and Masters in Education at East Central in Ada. Donna taught school for 20 years in Boley, Tecumseh, and McLoud. She moved back to Seminole when she retired.

Donna was an active Camp Fire Boys and Girls counselor for 58 years. She also was dean at summer church camps since 2010 at Canyon and Sonshine Methodist Camp. Donna joined the First United Methodist Church in 1965 and started her job as church secretary in January of 2004.

Donna was a huge OU Women’s Basketball fan. She loved to go on an annual Grand Canyon and Este Park trip and was spotted carrying two or three cameras to capture breathtaking views. She really enjoyed going to the Warren to watch movies. But her greatest joy was her nephew Steve and nieces Katelyn and Mallory and capturing every moment in their lives on camera.

Donna is preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by sister Kathy Magruder of Albuquerque, brother Mike Magruder and wife Lynn of Seminole, OK, nephew Steve Mulkey of Albuquerque, NM, and nieces Katelyn Magruder of Guthrie, OK and Mallory Magruder of Seminole, OK, aunt Deborah Rankin and husband Rocky of Coppell, TX, and cousins Jennifer Rankin and Brian Rankin, and dear friends.

Because of COVID Donna would not want anyone to gather until everyone was safe so memorial services will be at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, a Sonshine Camp Scholarship Fund in memory of Donna has been set up at the Seminole First United Methodist Church, 910 W. Wrangler Blvd, Seminole, OK 74868
