Delbert Dennis “D.D.” Patterson, 92, longtime Seminole resident, passed away on Wednesday, June 7, 2023, in Shawnee, Oklahoma. He was born on June 27, 1930, in Maud, Oklahoma to Aileen (York) Patterson and James Patterson. He grew up in Lefors, Texas and attended public schools there. He moved to Seminole in 1970. D.D. was the owner and CEO of Patco Oil Company until his retirement.

D.D. proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, during the Korean and Vietnam wars. He retired from the Air Force in 1971 with the rank of Senior Master Sergeant following a 21-year career. He was a Bronze Star recipient during the Vietnam War.

D.D. was very active in Seminole, serving over 20 years on the Seminole City Council. He served as a member of SEDC and was elected to the Seminole Hall of Fame in 2016. He was also an active and longtime member of The Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Seminole and was past president of the Parish Council. He was also past president of the Optimist Club.

D.D. loved and owned racehorses. He was a huge sports fan, especially college football. He attended and played football at West Texas State College before joining the U.S. Air Force. He was a well-known official for football, basketball and baseball at the high school and collegiate level in Oklahoma, nationally and internationally. D.D. was recognized by his peers and inducted into the Oklahoma Officials Hall of Fame in 1992. D.D. was also an avid golfer and was lucky/skilled enough to tally 7 holes in one during his golfing career.

D.D. is survived by his wife Anita Patterson of Seminole, Oklahoma, his children: his son, Frank Patterson and spouse Jennifer of Edmond, Oklahoma, his daughter Beth Gerwe and spouse Linda of Dallas, Texas and his son Rick Patterson and spouse Amy of Lamar, Mississippi, his sisters: Eunice Pflug and husband Dick of McKinney, Texas and Jackie Shoffit of Hereford, Texas, his grandchildren: Justin Patterson of Seattle, Washington, Addy Bohon and husband Mark of Moore, Oklahoma, Anna Nolan and husband Conner of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Nolan Patterson of Prosper, Texas, James Gerwe of Dallas, Texas, two great grandchildren Molly Bohon and Paisley Bohon of Moore, Oklahoma and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Molly Patterson, his son Dr. Glenn Patterson, his sister Reba Patterson and his parents Aileen and James Patterson.

The family will receive friends and family for a visitation on Friday, June 16, 2023, from 1:00 to 5:00 P.M. at the Swearingen Funeral Home. Rosary services will follow at the funeral home at 5:00 P.M.

Funeral Mass will be Saturday, June 17, 2023, at 1:00 P.M. at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Seminole, Oklahoma, burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Seminole, with military honors.

Funeral services are under the care and direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the “Molly and D.D. Patterson Memorial Scholarship” at Seminole State College.
