Darrell Gene Shackelford, 40, passed away peacefully in his sleep early June 19, 2022. He was born Sept. 13, 1981. He will be greatly missed by his family and by so many friends he has met over the years at Western Heights schools, AID Group Home, Dale Rodgers Learning Center, his softball league: Anyone Can-Team: Sluggers, Brightway Learning Center and Group Homes, various hospitals and rehabs over the years and nursing homes including the last one, Thundercare and Rehab.

Darrell Gene enjoyed life and tried to make the most of it. He had such a sweet smile and seemed to love and know everyone. He also endured a lot of heartache with the passing of his mother and brother who he loved so much and often shared memories and sorrow. Darrell had an excellent memory. He loved all music and movies and had collected so much over the years. He loved the OKC Thunder. He loved getting jerseys and going to the games. He made a lot of knitted place mats of his favorite player’s names. He loved to call on the phone and recently loved calling with FaceTime. He loved looking at pictures. He loved his birthday, he would let you know right after his birthday and continually through the year what day of the week his next birthday would be on and how old he would be. He loved getting presents and being with family. He called a lot of people his brothers and sisters. He was so excited to see his new nephew Ephram and was so proud to be called Uncle Darrell.

He leaves behind his Dad and Stepmom-Darrell and Lu Shackelford of Mustang, Half Sister-Kristyn LePoint of Yukon and Stepfather-Richard LePoint of Yukon, 5 Stepsisters-Maggie Sherwood of Yukon, Marla (CJ) Lance, Amanda Cardis-Washington State, Rechelle and Billie LePoint, Yukon, 1 step brother-Joseph LePoint stationed at Ft. Carson, CO, and grandmothers Nancy Musser of Wewoka and Olivia Neal of Cromwell. He was preceded in death by his mother, Helen LePoint-Yukon, brother-Shawn Shackelford of Warr Acres, grandfather Jerry Shackelford of Wewoka, grandfather Orville Neal of Cromwell, a stepsister Heather Lyons, OKC.

Funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M., Friday, June 24, 2022 at Stout-Phillips Chapel in Wewoka, OK with Rev. Dan Factor officiating. Interment to follow at Bearden Cemetery in Bearden, OK.
