Carolyn June Sampley, Seminole resident, passed away on Saturday, December 16, 2023 in Seminole, OK, at the age of 81. Carolyn was born on June 8, 1942 in Ardmore, OK to Henry L. Deatherage and Delphia (Thompson) Deatherage. She was a graduate of Springer High School where her nickname was “Thunderbird”. She worked for Sears for many years in sales.

Carolyn enjoyed sewing, watching the sunset at the lake, spending time with her best friend, Glenda Clark and her niece, Donna at the casino. She treasured her time with her family and friends. She was a devoted member of Mission Home Missionary Baptist Church in Wewoka, OK.

Carolyn is survived by her two sons, David Sampley and wife, Bobbie of Seminole, OK and Dewayne Sampley and wife, Tracey of Weatherford, TX; sisters, Clara Fry and Christina Arnold; seven grandchildren, Kara and Aaron Hines, Garrett and Stacy Sampley, Tanner and Patti Sampley, Cade Sampley, Kyli Sampley, Jordan Thomas and Nicole Thomas; great grandchildren, Cason and Gentry Hines, Scarlett and Sterling Sampley, Karter Thomas, King and Khamarri and Khali Dansby; and many other family and friends.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents; grandchild, baby Sampley; brother, James Deatherage; sister, Martha Royal; brother, Dewey LaBeth; numerous nieces and nephews; her late husband whom she married on June 17, 1960, Carl Sampley (high school nickname “Bugs”) and her significant other, Fred Sikes.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Traditions Hospice and Okemah Care Center for their compassionate care.

Those serving as casket bearers will be John Gosa, Greg Enoch, Chad Deatherage, Richard Jasna, Shannon Clark, and Shawn Clark. Honorary casket bearers will be Darrell Deatherage, Garrett Sampley, Tanner Sampley, Cade Sampley, Cason Hines, Aaron Hines, Karter Thomas, King Dansby and Les Arnold.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, December 22, 2023 at Mission Home Missionary Baptist Church in Wewoka. Interment will follow at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens in Seminole, OK. Pastor Larry Jones and Pastor Matt Wyatt will be officiating. Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, OK.
