Alice Harjo

Alice Riley Harjo, 100, a resident of the Graham Community passed this life on Dec. 24.

Alice was born Jan. 31, 1920 in Henryetta to Amos and Nellie (West) Riley.

Alice moved with her husband of 51 years, Alvin and family from the Graham vicinity of Weleetka to Seminole Little Community in 1967 and resided till 2006.

While living in Little, she was an Arts and Crafts instructor for the Seminole Tribe and teacher’s aide at the Prairie Valley Elementary School in the early 1970’s.

Alice is a member of the Thewarle Indian Baptist Church where she served as the Women’s Leader for many years.

Alice was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Alvin; brother, Lewis Riley; and sisters, Sally Watson, Susie Riley, Wynema Riley and Onnie Riley.

Alice is survived by her children, Wisey Ann Harjo of Tahlequah, Rebecca Coyote of Norman, Annette Harjo of Henryetta, Geraldine Evans of Norman and David Harjo and wife Sarita of Tecumseh; grandchildren, Kristen Evans, Heith Harjo and wife Dene’, Jeremy Harjo and Kelly Evans and wife Lynne; great grandchildren, Dani and Frankie Kopaddy; as well as a host of extended family and many friends.

Private family graveside services will be Thursday, Dec. 31 at 11 a.m. at the Harjo Family Cemetery south of Henryetta with Mitchell Taylor officiating. Services are under the direction of the Rogers Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Heith Harjo, Kelly Evans, Hank Williams and Walter Lewis Jr.

Honorary pallbearers will be Jeremy Harjo, Jerry Don Walker, Eugene Paul Vivier, Gene Austin Kernal, Dickie Kernal and Barton Looney.
