City police Saturday were still checking for two tool boxes stolen off of a pickup truck belonging to Melvin Wilson of Perry and parked on the west side of the Grisso Hotel. The theft occurred sometime Thursday night, police said.
The larger tool box was about three feet by two feet and about 14 inches deep. It was filled with all types of hand tools and weighed about 300 pounds, Wilson told police. The smaller box contained parts for small electric power plants. Both boxes were locked.
Wilson estimated the value of the stolen articles at $1,500.
The Chieftains, led by veteran quarterback Larry Inman, mixed an unusual dazzling passing attack with their usual crushing infantry assault to gain the district win.
In season play the Chieftains now hold a record of 2-0-1, while they stand 1-0 districtwide. Holdenville suffered their first defeat as their record dropped to 2-1 and their district record to 1-1.
Seminole killed the Wolverine winning jinx with the victory. The win was the first one for Seminole against Holdenville since 1962, when Seminole downed the Wolves 20-0.
Last year Holdenville and Seminole tied for second place in the district race. Wewoka won the ’70 championship. This year Seminole is predicted to win the district championship and with their success Friday the champion ship trophy appears that much closer to the Seminole trophy case.
Monday night at 7:30 at Holdenville stadium the Seminole Braves will play their second football game of the season when they take on the Holdenville “B” team.
The Braves are undefeated to date having downed Cushing’s “B” team in their first game of the season, two weeks ago, 14-6.
Brave Coach Jim Glasco said that the Monday contest would be similar to a scrimmage game, however, a score will be kept and a winner decided.
