Wilson Goes Virtual This Week; Cites Staff Shortage

Wilson Elementary School shifted to distance learning this week as the COVID-19 pandemic has left the school shorthanded.

“Due to staffing shortages related to COVID 19, Wilson Elementary will be distance learning beginning Jan. 25 through Tuesday, Feb. 1. Students may return to in-person learning on Tuesday, Feb. 2,” school officials said in a statement released Sunday.

Chromebooks, iPads and five days worth of school meals were scheduled to be distributed to students on Monday. Anyone who missed the meal distribution should call (405) 382-5085.

The Oklahoma State Department of Health (OSDH) on Monday reported a total of 268 active cases of the virus in Seminole County, including 140 in the City of Seminole, 74 in Wewoka and 43 in Konawa. The statewide total on Monday included 32,546 active cases, 3,292 deaths and 21,053 hospitalizations.

Earlier this month, the state rolled out a COVID-19 vaccination scheduler portal and as of Friday, 554,267 Oklahomans had registered through it to receive notifications on vaccine eligibility, according to the OSDH.

Health officials say that so far, 89,088 appointments have been scheduled by Oklahomans eligible to receive the vaccine. Current priority groups that are eligible for vaccine appointments include healthcare worker groups such as allied health fields and general outpatient health service (for example behavioral health workers and dentists), first responders and Oklahomans aged 65 and over.

To use the Vaccine Scheduler Portal, visit www. vaccinate.oklahoma.gov. If you would like to learn more about your eligibility, but cannot access the internet, call 211 or your local health department. The Seminole County Health Department may be reached at (405) 382-4369.
