Wewoka Man Injured in Hughes County Accident
A Wewoka man was injured in a three-vehicle accident in Hughes County Saturday evening, February 4. A female passenger in the same vehicle was treated and released and another female passenger was uninjured in the accident.
According to a report from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Mandell Carolina was driving a 2008 Chevrolet eastbound on OK-1. At approximately 7:44 p.m. a 2014 Ford, driven by Ashley Bratcher, 29, of Atwood was traveling westbound on OK-1 when she went left of center near County Road E 1440, between Allen and Atwood approximately 10 miles south of Holdenville. The Ford first struck the Chevrolet driven by Carolina and then struck an eastbound 2013 Kia driven by Alex Moody, 51 of Savanna, Ok. Moody was not injured.
Bratcher and two juvenile male passengers, both 17, were not injured.
Carolina was transported by Hughes County EMS to OU Medical Center in OKC with head injuries. He was admitted in stable condition. Passenger Latoyal Oguinn, 40, Wewoka, was transported to Mercy Hospital in Ada with head and trunk-external injuries. She was treated and released. Passenger Latricia Elbert, 56, Wewoka, was not injured.
According to the OHP report, Bratcher’s ability to drive was impaired due to drinking. The other two driver’s condition was apparently normal.
The OHP report states that seat belts were not in use by the driver or either passenger in the Ford. Seat belts were in use by all occupants in the other two vehicles.
The weather was dry and the 2-lane asphalt road was clear at the time of the accident, the report states.
This accident was investigated by Trooper Bryce McCutcheon of the Hughes County detachment of Troop D. He was assisted by Trooper Ty Wallace of the Hughes County detachment of Troop D, Hughes County Sheriff’s Office, Hughes County EMS, Holdenville Police Department, Holdenville Fire Department, and Atwood Fire Department.
