Wewoka High School Sends Students to State Conference

Posted in:

Wewoka High School had three students attend the 2021 Oklahoma Boys State and Oklahoma Girls State leadership conferences. The Oklahoma American Legion Boys and Girls State conferences are an intense week of non-partisan leadership, government, and patriotism sponsored by the American Legion of Oklahoma. Delegates to Boys and Girls State conferences have just completed their junior year of high school and were selected by their local American Legion Post or local High School as representatives of their community and school. For the 2020-2021 school year, Boys Oklahoma State also allowed senior delegates to attend.

Christian Baca, Jackson Kincade, and Jaidan Shaw attended Boys State at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College. Baca and Shaw were members of the House and Kincade served as a member of city council and district attorney.

Anna Cain, Tyra Johnson and Elizabeth Stanfield attended the Girls State conference virtually. Cain stated, β€œI am so thankful to have been given the opportunity to attend Girls State 2021. Although attending the program virtually was not ideal, I am grateful for what I learned along the way. The conference helped increase my comprehension of the government, enhance my leadership skills, and take initiative to create change.”

Dr. Shellie Gammill, Superintendent of Wewoka Public Schools states of the attendees, β€œOn behalf of Wewoka Public Schools, we are extremely proud to have these student leaders represent our school and community at Oklahoma Boys and Girls State Conferences.”
