Weekend Crash Claims Life of Konawa Woman

A two-vehicle accident in Seminole County Sunday morning, March 19, claimed the life of a Konawa resident, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

An OHP report states that Lisa Smith, 59, was pronounced deceased at the scene and was transported by Medical Examiner Transport to the Medical Examiner’s office in Oklahoma City.

The accident occurred at the intersection of US-377 and EW 1400 Rd. According to the OHP report, Smith was a passenger in a 1013 Nissan driven by Kristy Zapata-Gutierrez, 34, Konawa, who was transported in stable condition by Mercy EMS to Mercy Hospital in Ada with head and trunk internal injuries.

Another passenger, Teresa Casey, 49, Konawa, was also transported in stable condition by Mercy EMS to Mercy Hospital in Ada with head and trunk internal injuries. The report states the vehicle was equipped with seatbelts and in use by the driver only. The vehicle was equipped with airbags that deployed.

The report states that the Nissan was eastbound on EW 1400 Rd. when it failed to stop at a stop sign and entered the intersection of US-377 approximately 14 miles south of Seminole. It was struck by a southbound 2006 Ford F-150 driven by Clayton Myers, 32, from Decatur, Texas. Myers was not injured. Two juvenile male passengers, ages 6 and 7, Decatur, were also uninjured.

The truck was equipped with seatbelts and in use by all. The vehicle was also equipped with airbags that deployed.

The report states that the condition of the Nissan driver in under investigation. The condition of the Ford driver was apparently normal.

Other details in the report include the weather was clear at the time of the accident, and the 2-lane, undivided asphalt road was dry.

The accident was investigated by Trooper Tim Baker with the Homicide Division of the Oklahoma Highway Patrol. Trooper Baker was assisted by Trooper Ty Wallace, Light Horse Police, Seminole County Sheriff’s Office, and Konawa Fire Department.
