VARNUM INTRODUCES 21-22 JOURNALISM STUDENTS

Posted in:

Last week, we began introducing the members of our journalism class for the 2021 - 2022 school year. This week, we will continue our introductions with three of our sophomores.

Patience Romines says she is excited to be in Ms. Kelly’s Journalism class. Romines has been attending Varnum Public Schools for twelve years. She said she joined journalism because she plans on majoring in journalism after high school.

Her hobbies include cheerleading, helping manage the high school basketball teams at Varnum, and reading. Romines's extracurricular activities include BPA, 4-H, FCA, FOCUS, and GEAR-UP. Romines’s favorite part about journalism is writing for the newspaper and learning about photography.

Varnum Public Schools would also like to introduce sophomore journalism student James Johnson.

Johnson is newer to Varnum Public Schools than most of his classmates. “I joined journalism because it seemed interesting, and interviewing seemed interesting as well as meeting new people,” said Johnson. Johnson looks forward to interviewing people for the newspaper the most as well as taking pictures. Johnson likes gaming and working out during his free time. Johnson says his favorite subject is science.

When asked about trying new things, Johnson said, "It's like the Nike slogan, Just Do It! People who are scared to do new things should just do it!” Johnson looks forward to going to a programming college after high school.

Our last sophomore introduction is for Gareth Van Winkle. This is the Van Winkle's first time in journalism, and he said he is looking forward to writing the newspaper with his fellow classmates. In Van Winkle’s free time, he likes to play videogames on his computer. After high school, Van Winkle plans to find a job and work. Van Winkle joined journalism class because he said he wants to practice writing for the newspaper.

We will introduce the remaining members of our journalism class next week.
